It appears that yet once again Gus is proved right to drop Dunk. I think that he was res[ponsible for the goal against WHU and hasnt played well recently. Hr was due a rest but suprised they let Cook go out on loan before resting Dunk but then again Gus has signed a good defensive loanee in Reyes.

Why are some of you blaming Dunk for the pass, it was Bridcutt that slipped up allowing Nolan to run at goal, had Bridcutt remained on his feet I am sure he would have chased back, to me he had a mare of a game and gave the ball away on at least 4 occasions, yet he is still in the team, the point I am making is that Dunk being rested is not about one or two bad passes, otherwise several players would have suffered the same were it true.

Not blaming Dunk for the WHU goal, Bridcutt fu**ed up, but he was given a shit ball and Nolan was closing him down cos Sam had sussed us out, Dunk had no need to put Bridcutt in that position, and I feel Gus blames him for this.
Bridcutt had his worst game of the season, because he blamed himself for the goal, and his confidence was shot for the rest of the game.

It was a shit ball cos Nolan anticipated it and closed him down, there was no need to put Bridcutt in that position IMHO

Wrong Wrong Wrong. He was in no danger if he controlled it properly

Bridcutt is one of my favorite players, but he had a very rare shocker that night, but to blame anyone other than him is just wrong.
Bridcutt recieves 50 balls like that every game.

And finally some sanity. He is still young in his first full season so resting him now and then makes sense

Again everyone cannot reveal my source but he just dropped him for a rest remember he is only 18 and it worked Clean sheet away

Had so many scouts looking at him recently can see him just being rested so as to not let the praise go to his head and bring him down to earth a bit

This is half true just being rested as hes only 18

Dunk is young centre back in his first run in the team on way too many yellows.

Reyes is a relatively experienced international defender who appears to be fitting into our team well after 2 games.

He wasn't dropped for Reyes, though....

I think there is too much being read into this, Gus has shown that he will drop any player for the best of the team, I think there are several reasons contributing to the resting/dropping of Dunk without 1 single major reason. He will be back in a couple of game better and fresher than ever and we will all be saying what a great decision it was.

As an aside from all the speculation about why Dunk didn't start today...Calderon had a good game today at CB, and that can only be good news. I heard all the rumours before the game today about why Dunk wasn't there, and I really don't know what to believe. One thing's for sure though - I still trust in Gus.

Gus is trying to build a squad not just a team. Players will be included and omitted for all sorts of reasons - tactics, rest, discipline and injuries. All top teams rotate these days depending upon periods between games, the style of the opposition etc and I believe Gus is trying to create a culture where players accept they may not play every game and accept it accordingly.
Dunk is still young and was thrown into the fray at the start of the season with little experience. He subsequently exceeded all expectations early on but just lately his form has dropped away slightly. His yellow card count is also a worry.
Hardly surprising that Gus thought it right to leave him out yesterday.

BBC Sport - Football - Brighton's defensive solidity pleases manager Gus Poyet
In the lords exact words for anyone who cant listen.

'I think that the idea was to, that yano we give him a rest and slow down things with dunky, we put him so much under pressure, so quick with so many games so quick and many strengths i thought that it was time to say, maybe, lets just slow down, calm down, give the kid a nice rest to regroup and to think about, yano, how important he can be in his future but it doesn't need to be now, so yeah it was that kind of decision more thank anything else'
