I have not had a cigarette and this is the 5th day but I cannot carry on. I feel like death and cannot cope. I feel like I have a bad dose of Flu and extreme fatigue.

I have ready over a year 20% of Heroin addicts give up but only 5-10% of nicotine addicts.

Anyone been through this to let me know when its gets better as its better to be addicted than feel like this.

I gave up about 18 months ago after a 40 aday habit. It will get worse before it gets better im affraid. The important thing is to avoid where possible the situations that you used to smoke in. AT least for the first few weeks. Stay strong and think about the cash you will be saving. Prehaps put it in a jar on the table so you can see how much it is, and then plan what you will do with it. All so reward your self with other things, for me after 7 days it was a day out at Alton Towers, then after a month a new xbox, then a year a new PC.

nicotine clears your system in a few days I believe

Gareth . . .you've been chaining for some time so you may have built up a tarmac layer in your bone marrow

hang in there ! I went 18 months absolutely no problem . . .then started again . . . .absolutely no problem :nono: now quitting seems to be more daunting than it was before, but I will quit again and hopefully for good !

It's all in your mind just beat it, it's a dirty smelly habit.
People come to my house and ask if they can smoke I say only if I can fart in your mouth, they soon get the picture.

Gareth,

Trust me when I say the following.

I am a spineless weak pathetic individual.

I stopped smoking 6 weeks ago.

I smoked 30 a day.

I smoked for 10 years.

It is killing people.

Nicotinell taked the craving away.

It tastes crap but is a start.

I save nearly £250 per month.

I save nearly £3,000 per year.

In 10 years time with inflation I will have saved nearly £40,000

It is not about coping with giving up.

It is about feeling so proud of yourself that you have.

Keep going.

You are saving your own life.

Keep going, as someone has said a great deal is psychological, you just have to keep telling yourself you don't want another one. I used bananas and yoghurt when I gave up and I haven't had a cigarette since 1988.

Ive never had a cigerette so my opinion isnt probably worth anything.

So just some encouragement from me.

You can do it, KEEP THE FAITH.

I found when I gave up if you can make the first two weeks it then starts to get a bit eaier then you have to go to a pub and not smoke once you've done that if you make it it gets easier and easier. The last Ciggy I had was the day we beat Cheaterfield to win the div 3 title. I still get cravings for one now but I can control it.

Stick with it, you'll feel miles better for it and have loads more cash.

Thats one way of doing it.

The other is to put yourself in that environment and not smoke - then everything is downhill from there. That worked for me.

The really really important thing is to know you have smoked your last cigarette, else you are just waiting for an excuse to smoke.
