Donatellos is crap though - nasty school hall place with really ordinary Italian food as well. I like the fact they sponser Brighton but it aint a good restaurant.

Totally agree. I've been dragged in there a couple of times and on both occasions the food has been awful. I swear the sauce for the pasta i had the second time I went was a tin of condensed mushroom soup.

For a cheap and cheerful Italian, you really can't beat Picolo's in the lanes just about opposite the Font & Firkin. Not really suitable for a romatic meal for 2, but the food's good, the staff friendly, the ambience fairly busy and you won't spend a fortune. Oh, and their Veal Milanese is great.

I go there quite often too, great food and great atmosphere.

I also like Oreganos, great Italian food and good prices.

Where's that?

As a general rule, Italian restaurants in Brighton are not that good. I don't know Oreganos, but thinking about it, I'd also suggest Si Signore in Sydney Street. There's no alcohol licence (you bring your own), but the nosh is pretty good.
