Tremendous news Cornish. Not being an expert on this, does being in remission largely mean cured in cancer terms - or is there still more treatment to come? It seems this is a huge step forward given where you were several months ago, which is obviously fantastic news

Yeah it does mean I'm free of cancer but I've got the major treatment to come which is the high dose chemo and stem cell transplant.
I had a call from the transplant specialist for the dates for stem cell harvest it starts in 2 weeks time I'll spend a few days in hospital having more chemo(cyclophosphamide) with an anti body(retuximab). Then a week of GCSF injections which boosts the growth of cells in your bone marrow and disperses them into the blood so they can harvest them which will be carried out over 1 or 2 days. So this is the next step before the transplant itself.

Sure, there was/is an element of anger knocking about in me but tbh it's more a concern that he clearly took a decision to recommend surgery without fully assessing either me or studying my medical history. Frankly, I think he belated realised that this isn't the sort of procedure that he's familiar with so effectively 'bottled it'. However, his ego has taken a big knock, the Oncology Dept at Guildford are clearly displeased and there's an element of gloating at his discomfort from the Basingstoke team who will be performing my operation. Is there anything to be gained by pursuing some sort of formal complaint? I doubt it, he has apologised and the knowledge that his piers know exactly what happened will probably be enough for me. Atm the moment I need to concentrate on getting myself in the best shape possible for the surgery in November (and to Portman Road on Saturday).
Interesting analogy of yours between Basingstoke and Bognor; on balance, I'd always prefer Basingstoke.

Just a quick update I'm being admitted to hospital today for the rest of the week for some anti body treatment and chemo to flatten the bone marrow in preparation for the stem cell harvest.
Plenty of bordom for the next few days lol.

My mum got cancer in 1981, was completely cured and died in 2010 aged 89. I can well remember how happy and relieved we were when we got the final, definitive all clear. Good luck.

My friend (also a STH) died from leukemia a year ago today, so this is good news on a sad day for me.
A few days of boredom will be worth it, good luck!
BTW, not the RCH is it? They seem to have a few "bed problems" at the moment!
