Where does Lewes Distiric Council get off yet another anti football policy, Newhaven Town F.C. chucked out of their ground losing their changing rooms and club house and being made to play on the other side of town in a kids park donated to the locals of Eastside by the late Earl of Shefield.

Yet more evidence of the Lib-dems are anti-football.

This is crazy, it just used to be the Tories who hated football, what will happen next. We need to start a sports party, dedicated to developing and improving facilities to play organised sports, it does after all have health benefits for those who take part.

Liberals will stop at nothing to try and quash the working man/woman,their elitist views and anti sport policies spread like the pox on a hot summers day, they are vermin and retribution will be swift and merciless come the conference season,I hope that every member of Lib Dem LDC planning commitee dies an agonising death.

Not sure but I have a feeling that this story is not quite as it seems. Found this in LDC council minutes July 2005.

'However, funding by the Football Foundation was structured in such a way that a grant of £800k would only be possible if Newhaven Football Club moved off the site to a site of their own. This would enable both this project and the Football Club to make best use of the different funds available from the Football Foundation. This was because the general funding available (the grass roots fund, grants capped at £1m) was higher than that available to football clubs (the stadium fund, grants capped at £100k). If this project was classified as a Sports Village, it could apply for greater funding from the grass roots fund. However, if Newhaven Football Club remained on the site, access to the grass roots fund would be reduced and would not be compensated for by the football club applying for funding from the stadium fund. If the Football Club remained on the site, the maximum grant that the project could obtain was around £350k. However, if the Football Club moved off the site, the maximum grant that the project could obtain was around £800k.'

Think we need to get the facts straight before we cast LDC as football hating villains in every case. The news story on South East news presented the case of local mothers who resented the local park their children use being taken over for football use.

On 606 on Saturday a guy phoned in and was asked about his clubs plan for a new ground. I didn't catch who he supported, Northampton ?? (I know it wasnt us)but he said that it was being held up by a local lib dem council who's actions were putting the ground and the club in jeopardy. Wish I could remember what club it was. The lovely Liberals really hate football it seems.

LIBERAL DEMOCRATS OBJECT TO COUNCIL'S PLANS.

Supporters Representative Anthony Collett stated he was "Devastated that the Liberal Democrats had challenged the Council's decision", this came after the Liberal Democrats "called in" the decision made by the Council from the Cabinet Meeting on December 5th.

Anthony Collett went on to state that "This has once again put the timescales back as the decision is now reviewed, meaning the workshops to advance the Sixfields Area Action Plan have been postponed until next year."

"It is laughable that the Liberal Democrats are saying that the council have rushed the decision, over two years on from when the plans were first released."

"The biggest disappointments are that surely all the work to test the alternatives should have been done by now, also the Liberal Democrats had the opportunity to question the Councils proposal on the night of the Cabinet meeting and yet the proposals went through with no objection from Councillors."

"It seems that the progress and viability of Northampton's Football League Team is regarded as a "Pawn in a game of Political Chess""

"The irony is that last week the Liberal Democrats were speaking up against the Conservatives over their delays on the new Barnet stadium and the Barnet fans were asking supporters to vote Liberal Democrat, yet in Northampton the reverse is happening with the same party."

"All at NTFC Supporters Limited will continue to work hard to get answers for supporters and to keep you as informed as possible."

Lewes District Council's Press Release:-

Tuesday 15 August 2006

Eastside Recreation Ground Consultation

On 12 August the Newhaven Community Development Association (NCDA) and Lewes District Council started a pre-planning consultation about proposals to improve the facilities of the Eastside Recreation Ground, which is closely linked to the development of sports facilities on Fort Road.

The purpose of this initial consultation is to inform residents of the details of the proposals and to hear their views. NCDA and Lewes District Council want to work constructively and closely with the local community and to take into account all concerns.

NCDA, Lewes District Council, Newhaven Town Council and a range of voluntary sports groups have been working to develop plans to improve sports facilities in Newhaven. The proposals include moving Newhaven Football Club from Fort Road to Eastside, which would free up space at Fort Road for a new all weather pitch and a large sports hall. The aim is to improve the current dilapidated and run down sports areas and create excellent facilities of which the whole of Newhaven can be proud.

The funding depends on the generosity of a number of different sources who will want to see maximum use made of the new facilities. The amount of funding available for a single club is very limited.

The proposals as they stand would not affect the children’s play area on Eastside. The play area will be improved and open space for recreational use would remain available as the fencing would leave approximately half of the existing area unaffected except by proposed landscaping and planting.

The Eastside pitch is already used by local Sunday League clubs and youth teams and the plans need not reduce the amount that football clubs use the pitch. The pitch itself would be fenced to a height of six feet in compliance with FA regulations that ensure people who watch the matches have paid. This does not mean exclusive use of the pitch by a single club.

A public meeting on Saturday 12 August was well attended and constructive. The proposals, which aim to benefit the whole of Newhaven, have been positively welcomed by some Eastside residents who have applauded the plans to improve sports and leisure facilities in Newhaven. The development would bring Newhaven’s sports facilities into line with neighbouring towns, which would have significant benefits for local people and especially young people in the town.

Both NCDA and Lewes District Council are looking constructively at how the proposals for Eastside can be adapted to accommodate residents’ concerns for example parking space, street lighting and planting.

Graham Amy, Chair of NCDA and a member of Newhaven Town Council, said:“This is an opportunity for Newhaven to get the high quality sports and informal recreation facilities for the 21st century which we deserve. We need to work together so that the views of all are considered before any plans are finalised.”

That is the ground next to Newhaven Cricket Club?

Reading that, it looks as though LDC were acting in the best interests of the club and also the residents....or did I read it wrong?

Why do Northampton need a bigger extention to the ground....they hardly fill the place now
