Right, I've just flown back from NY overnight, didn't really sleep much on the plane, now struggling to keep my eyes open but my flatmate says if I even have a couple of hours now then I won't sleep later. He says I should push through and have an early night tonight.

Anyone got any advice?

Apparently the ONLY way is to not eat at all on the day that you fly until you get to your destination, then to eat normal meals. Probably too late for this though.

I've done both and its never caused an issue. Have a nap now for an hour or two at the most (put your alarm on) and I guarantee you you'll still be stuggling to keep your eyes open at 8:30 - 9pm tonight and then will sleep through til around 7am. Or struggle through now - you'll have to go out for a walk and make sure you don't sit on the sofa, and you'll be in bed at 7:30pm and await tomorrow morn at 6am...

I've done my share of London / NY's and Sydney / NY / Londons and there is no ideal way.

Next time take a few melatonin tablets, not available in the UK but you can get them in any NYC drugstore and you should sleep right through the flight.

I tried that on the advice of a friendly idiot at Duane Reades and it didn't really help to be honest...

Jet lag isn't usually fatal, I'd do whatever feels right & don't lose any sleep over it, no pun intended.

town full of eejits
take some tramodol,go to the pub ,get wankered, have a kebab with as much chilli sauce on as you can handle. get a bottle of red and go home, make sure you drink it all before you go to sleep..............no matter when you wake up,you won't be worried about jet-lag.

Well I'm still awake, been washing up, gardening, walked to the dry cleaners and i'm off to the driving range now to stop myself falling asleep infront of the test match...

Get through til 7.30 and I'm calling it a day...

Diazepam or Mirtazapine is great for getting to sleep at unusual hours and there's no grogginess upon waking but they are addictive, trying to wean myself off them.

I'm sure you'll sleep well tonight. Horlicks before going to bed does the trick.
