New tv help

Brighton_Barca

Bus stop wanker
Just bought myself a new Samsung 32" LCD tv. I have it set up via my V+ with a scart cable, i'm just wondering will that give me the best picture?

Reading the manual it says about also using a HDMI cable?

Cheers for any help

I'd suggest also to google something like 'best picture settings for whatever make/model ', and you'll find some av forums that'll tell you what they are.

The factory settings are normally crap.

Using a scart cable will give an OK picture, but you won't get HD pictures over it! Get a HDMI cable as suggested by clippedgull above, again don't buy an expensive one, places like currys will try to sell you a £80 cable if they could. Theres no quality loss over HDMI as the signals all 1's and 0's and the TV decodes these into the picture that you see, as the pictures digital. Scart however is analouge and you do need more expensive cables which are thicker and have gold plated ends.

The gadget show did a test with 3 tv's set0ip with blu ray players using a HDMI cable from pundland, a HDMI cable worth £20 and a HDMI cable wother £80, no-one could tell any difference!

Heres a good one if you can wait a few day for amazon to deliver, you can go through the affiliate link at the top of the Northstandchat forums as well!

AmazonBasics 2M Dual-Shielded High Speed HDMI Cable: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics

Also check out AVForums.com as there is a lot of advice on setting up new tv's and cables, etc...

Good luck!

Thanks for the help so far guys. Will the HDMI cable still give a better picture than the scart even if i'm not watching all channels in HD?

Don't be such a tight sod.

As pointed out, the one on amazon is only a fiver:moo:
