@ LAST we have a SOCIALIST PRIME MINISTER.

Gordon Brown has enough nominees to become leader of the Labour Party.

Lets hope Blair gets food poisoning on the American after dinner circuit.

It won't take long before the public can see how uncomfortable Brown is as PM in terms of the meeting, greeting, schmoozing and press side of things.

The guy is AWKWARD! Blair's brilliance at "interfacing" as PM is becoming ever more apparent the more we see of Brown.

Cameron will be cracking open the champagne tonight.

While I'm no confessed Brown fan, I still think Cameron has a long way to go in the presentability department. He tries too hard and it really shows.

He looks better because the yardstick of previous Tory leaders was rather abysmal(Vampire and Quiet Man). Shame people have good memories, I reckon Hague would do a better job right now. He is more heavyweight than Cameron in my opinion.

The next election is for Labour to lose than for the Tories to win because, despite what anyone might think of this present administration, or the individuals within the Cabinet, the oppostion are still, after ten years, f***ing HOPELESS.

I suppose it's a case of who is perceived as more f***ing hopeless - Brown's team or Cameron's team, and face it, everyone has had a go at being Tory leader this century, and they still haven't cleared out the deadwood. Can anyone name the Shadow Cabinet, or even half of it - without looking it up?

If the General Election was this Autumn, my prediction would be... a hung Parliament, with Labour forming a pact with the LibDems to form the government.

Labour are in power and the tories arn't? :lolol:

Labour have been pretty poor since before the last election, the fact the tories didn't get in speaks volumes.

Brown taking over really isnt good news. Thanks for everything tony, I think you've been a spot on PM but please don't leave us with Brown. Call another general election!

After Maggie.

Labour supporters voted for Labour to make BLIAR PM not Brown when Bliar resigns there should be another General Election to give the new PM whoever it may be a mandate to govern..

The electorate voted Blair and Labour in because they wanted change, the Tories were a corrupt disorganised rabble and the country desperately needed a change. Many would argue that Labour are now little different, but I would draw a parallel to what happened in 1990, you have a charismatic leader being replaced by a money man (as Thatcher was by Major). On that occasion Major went on to win an election and his own mandate to govern, I can see Brown achieving the same thing next time round, but it could be a close run thing. We still don't really know what Cameron stands for, time will only tell if he can achieve for the Tories what Blair did for Labour....New Conservatives, anyone?

Voters vote for a party to govern not a Prime Minister. That party can choose whoever they like as leader during their time in office. They could change it every year if they wish to do so.

Correct Yorkie, and I bet Bens Grandad wasn't calling for an election when Major replaced Thatcher

Sometimes the country just need a change. It worked for the conservatives for an election when Major took over. There was sufficient change to re-elect the tories. Will it work for Gordon Brown ?

I hope so as it happens. I think we have gone too far down the presidential-avenue which has increased the importance of looks and presentation in our celebrity culture - and Gordon Brown is more substance than shine.

Congratulations comrade Brown on your election victory, your fellow MPs fully support you, well they had to really otherwise it would have been the Outer Hebridies for them.
Once again well done Stalin oops sorry Brown.
