More importantly, a central midfielder and a right winger are absolute necessities if we are to be a decent team. Sadly, I think we will have to make do with one or the other.

To repeat myself, we already have the following options at RM;

Reid
Hart
Robinson
Cox

This to me is perfectly adequate, not that I'd object to seeing a fit Bowditch back [if such a thing exists].

CM is where we should be concentrating all our efforts.

Here we have Hammond who is well worth a place, but the options to play alongside him [El Abd, Oatway, Fraser, Mayo] are inadequate. There is also Reid, though I'd much rather see him on the right with a proper replacement for Bertin in the centre.

Maybe Harty could play there:thumbsup:

Reid is much better in the middle, Hart and Robinson are not good enough to be first-choices, and Cox will probably be on the left. You could play Cox on the right, and the problem would be solved, but that would create the problem of not having a left-winger (presuming Frutos is still out of favour). So, the way I see it is Cox is the only player good enough and reliable enough to be a first choice on the wing all season. Whether you play him on the right or the left doesn't change the fact we badly need to sign someone else. Personally, Bowditch on the right and Cox on the left sounds good.

In the middle, Hammond is an obvious choice, and I hope Reid can play in there too, but the rest of the choices are, erm, shall we say uninspiring. I guess our opinions differ because you want to see Reid on the right, I want him in the centre, but whatever way you look at it I think our only midfielders of a decent standard are Cox, Reid, and Hammond. With Reid coming back from injury, and still likely to be moved around positions, I think two more are desperately required.

I am right.

You may well be right that Reid ends up in the middle, and I have absolutely no issue with that. However, for me the squad has no adequate cover at CM if Reid or Hammond are injured.

On the right any one of Cox, Robinson, Hart, Reid and Revell who I forgot can do a reasonably effective job.

Sir we agree, if one of Reid, Hammond or Cox get a injury the midfield looks pony.
Plus we dont know how well Reid will come back do we?

If the midfield starts with Hart in it I see not much improvement on last year.
How many of
Hart. Cox, Hammond, Reid, Frutos, El Abd, Robinson, Mayo, Fraser or Oatway would get into a starting 11 in this league? Hammond, Cox and Reid I would think

The problem is, DW seemed very reluctant to play GH last year instead prefering to play someone out of position. Cox is nailed on the left if we assume Frutos will stay the same as 06/07. So It means either Reid or the mostly ineffective Robinson on the RW. Bearing in mind Reid is a CM then it suddenly looks like we don't have nearly enough quality there which would be needed if a play off place is to be challenged for.
Let alone if we had a couple of injurys.

CM to me could do with bolstering but providing Hammond stays fit then his partner of Oatway , Reid , Hinsh , El Abd is enough to at least start the season with.

also forgot to add, we have a decent striker now and we have to do everything possible to get a team to give him the chances.

Feed the goat and the goat will score type scenario.

I think the goat has more potential to get fed from the wings than CM

Not that he's a goat , more a stooping lama

We've also got Hinsh who can play in midfield. When he has played there has it been central or right? And anyone recall if he's any good there?

After his first long injury, his first game back was in CM, away to Norwich, I think. He got sent off after about 30 mins.

I think we've seen all our signings for this season, sadly.
Wilkins said he wanted the squad in place for pre-season, and the whole '5 new signings' think refererring to those returning from injury from Wilkins just seemed like desperate straw clutching.

I hope i'm wrong

Forgive me if I'm out of touch, have we finished our interest in Bertin now?

2 BIG downers this pre season are the that the Franny Jeffers to Ipswich deal has fallen throuth so I think it is unlikely that they'll will allow Bowditch to leave. Also we have given Kuipers a contract, WHY??? Lets hope for all our sakes that we manage to persuade another keeper to join before the season starts.
