Correct, it is AVERAGE.

Though I thought buying tortoises was a bit illegal these days as they are endangered

not any more as long as they are bought from a captive breeder it's fine. They are no longer aloud to be caught and sold from the wild. Also some require a license to keep

I thought that you could buy tortoises that were hatched in the UK, but not imported ones.

I was offered an opportunity to buy one last year, I wanted a pet that was in keeping with my pace of life and my friends suggested a tortoise.

My parents have a tortoise at home, called "Ted" but a few years ago we found out it was female, still called Ted though.

He was found in the village and given to my aunt about 25 odd years ago. She was unable to keep him because her dog was convinced it was a bone, so it moved next door to my parents.

Formed a bond with our cat and they would sometimes be found in uncompromising positions.

My brothers dog is extremely confused by the thing, and gives it one of those "what the f*ck is that" dog looks.

At some point someone may have drilled a hole in the shell, supposedly for a lead or something, so the poor thing has a piece missing at the front of its shell (a bit like a cracked mug)

She also has some kind of cataract in one eye, which has its benefits since when she goes walkies she usually only manages a large circle.

They motor along a lot quicker that you'd expect and just love dandelion leaves.

They walk alot, always seem to be on the move. They bring it in when the weather is bad, and it just walks and walks round the house. Has a kip, then walks around again.

I never really figured out to keep it entertained, introduce a vulture into the house ?

I have no idea of it's age, as we havent yet got round to cutting it in two to count the rings.

I'll post a picture tomorrow.

Once they get going they can cover some ground! My one used to climb up the back step and leg it right the way through to the living room in a matter of seconds!!!
