Just some stuff I've stumbled upon recently and thought some of you may be interested...

Alt-J - Can't actually tell how much I like them, but I LOVE their videos. Check these out:

Breezeblocks

Tessellate

Polica - Brings to mind Portishead if they were young now, and hipsters. Two drummers is always a nice touch, and some genuinely tuneful use of vocoder for once.

Any suggestions from your good selves?

I'm with you on Alt-J all the way. I wrote about them on my blog back in May and you can listen to the entire album streamed via Soundcloud too here:

and I discovered a really dark remix of Breezeblocks here:

Just listen to that for a few times and it will seriously start to mess with your mind.

Polica are completely new to me but if you've quoted Portishead in the same breath then I am very interested. Thanks for the heads up. I've not been listening to any new music of late because of work and various other things so this will get me back in the swing. Cheers.

I'll come back to you in a few days on some recommendations. Most of the stuff I bought recently is at home, not yet transferred to my iPod and I'm in Bristol during the week.

I'm feeling Alt-J too. As you say good videos- a nod to the Raphael painting in the Vatican in the Tesselate vid (I think?). I was expecting a twist at the end of the Breezeblocks vid but I wasn't sure exactly what, so it was quite absorbing. I had to play it again as I didn't listen to the song first time round.

Amatorski are room-silencing live, stars of The Great Escape by several metres to my ugly ears. They don't seem to leave Belgium very often, unfortunately.

Not new but I was digging around for some samples the other day and found out Jonah Dempcy did some stuff under the name The Insider at the end of 2010. Nice bit of eerie hip-hop: Free Music Archive: The Insider - Interstellar Export

Khaela Maricich of The Blow is making new music and I found out she did a bonus album at some point. And Amanda Palmer has made a new album with a goofy orchestra, the usual bombastic stuff with a skin-heavy video:

Cheers for this. I have been meaning to check out Alt-J. I heard good things from them at The Great Escape. I have the Policia album but due to various reasons I've not given it a thorogh and proper listen yet. First spin was very encouraging though and Wandering Star is still lodged in my mind.

From me to you, I have been playing this album by a duo called Chairlift, you might like them.

quite like the 'Husky' album but it could easily be trimmed of a handful of songs particularly the ones that sound a bit like f***ing Mumford and f***ing bastards
The Sun Kil Moon album is superb
Narrowly topping Sun Kil Moon is John Murry 'The Graceless Age' which is truly magnificent

But It's not all doom and gloom music at Pevenseagull towers, oh no. This is a bumper year for the MIGHTY Robert Pollard 2 solo albums, 3 Guided By Voices albums and a Boston Spaceships retrospective already out or confirmed for release and rumors of another couple of albums. Glorious

Alt-J were on my list at a festival I was at in Belgium last week.

But then I got distracted watching the barely clad, erm, laydeez gyrating around Snoop Dogg, and failed to make it to their tent on time...
