New ground for Southend?

Southend Ground Plans

Apologies if fixtures.

Southend are to submit plans for a new 22,000 seat stadium including parking, retail outlets and executive boxes that turn into hotel rooms (sure I've heard that somewhere recently).
Odds it on being built before Falmer?

Looks like we`ll be going down this road soon also with Noades selling Selhurst.

Is that really true ? You know what its like around the Croydon/South London area for land and if you move just where will Palace go ?

This could be a time to make cheap jibes (I know I will at some point) but realistically as the 'ideal situation' of the Athletics Track doesn't look viable (thanks to the Bromley NIMBYs) what are the alteratives ? Herne Hill Velodrome ?

Is the Orange one (not me) buying it for the club, or is he still refusing to negotiate with Noades?
Noades and Jordan don`t see eye to eye and can not finalise a deal so therefore Noades has decided to sell to a property developer called Stuctadene Ltd. The way forward will be Jordan to lease the ground or buy it from them.

I wouldn't be too sure about it. Southend have been looking for a new ground for almost as long as us, but at least they own Roots Hall (I think). However, they had to sell off part of it to survive. Where that strange two-tier home end is was once a huge kop. Fat Bazza, when he was in charge back at the start of the 1990s (has he ever just managed a club?), was talking along with the then Chairman Vic Jobson of moving to Basildon, which was about as popular as a suggestion for us to share Selhurst. There is also a huge NIMBY movement in Essex, as Southend is full of rich, retired Londoners. However, they are also struggling on crowds of 4,000 or so. I don't think they can do a Reading, either. Reading has the privelege of being the only club in Berkshire and having North Hampshire as a substantial catchment area. Most footbal supporters in Southend support West Ham.

There dosn`t look much of an alternative but i`m sure something will be sorted.

Couldn't they redevelop the whole town while they're at it?

The Toilet?

I was more referring to the North Stand, but I believe our toilets are under cover also. :)

Isn't a Gorund some kind of Sikh temple?

From what I can remember of RS at school, that's a gurdwara.

I thought the really remarkable thing I heard at the weekend was that Gaydamak had abandoned plans to rotate Fratton Park 90 degrees and now wants to build a new stadium on the northern outskirts of the city.

Like, has he learnt anything from Southampton's and our experience?

Portsmouth's attempt to build a new stadium at Farlington Marshes was rightly turned down in the early 1990s. Why can't they just rebuild on the same site? Not every new ground needs to be on an industrial estate like Reading - I like real inner city grounds like Fratton Park.
