The armband is irrelevant to me. We've been carefully assembling a squad of leaders.

Dunk will rightly stay club captain, with Webster and Welbeck as deputies, but Veltman, JPvH and even Milner and Steele will still take responsibility as leaders on and off the pitch.

I'm not having that.

We need a first eleven. No messin'.
With the number 5 as Captain.
That means, bosh.

Er, relegation.
Sorry I banged my head on the bathroom door and have concussion.

D'you want some? ???

I am not sure why people obsess about this. I am sure Dunk will be captain. And when he's not playing the armband will go to whoever Fab deems appropriate, be it Milner, Welbeck, Webster or Van Hecke. I would be surprised if anyone makes a big deal about it and announces a new captain. It sounds like there is already a leadership group behind the scenes anyway

Still Dunk, and rightly so. He had injuries last season, and so looked rusty. Could very well be back to good form with a rest, recovery, and a full pre season. Some seem a bit too eager to drop him.

The role of captain seems to have diminished a lot, from being the talker, leader and experienced head, usually a CB or CM, to now just being the best player (Son, Fernandes) the one which has been around longest (Cairney, Lascelles, Coleman) or a tool to placate players (giving the armband to Joao Pedro for a game being a good example of this. Also probably applicable to Ratty Fernandes.)

JPvH could fit both categories, so an obvious choice if he stays. If not, I'd say it's Webster for criteria A, Baleba or Mitoma for criteria B. I'm sure it'd just be a case of the vice-captain doing it if/when Dunk is out rather than giving a 'team captain' moniker or anything.

We had an injury crisis and thought we needed a body.
January window, limited the options available.
As it turned out we got a lot more out of Webster than we thought we would and Cashin was surplus to requirements
This. Insurance buy we ultimately didn’t need, probably won’t lose any money on him. As for a new captain, no chance.

No way should we be suggesting stripping Dunk of his Captaincy imo. I think he deserves better than that from the years of service he’s put in - if he’s not on the pitch (which he will be bar injury and fatigue issues) then hand the armband for that match to anyone of a number of experienced players including Welbz, Steele (if Bart and or JPVH goes), Milner, even Jack could wear the armband if Dunk is out.

The role of captain isn’t just on the pitch during matches but in training, in the dressing room and mentoring the youngsters. Dunk IS our Captain.
