New £55 million investment into The Amex?

I can't believe there are a few dissenting voices. "No longer a community club" and "sold our soul" are absolute nonsense. How is providing yet more jobs and top-quality facilities for the community proof of this? It's almost as though you believe the Albion are wicked and mischievous for wanting to make money. As far as I can see, there wasn't a long queue of people willing to pump £100m+ into a football stadium and totally regenerate a previously vacant part of our city. Tony Bloom deserves the backing of the council for putting his hand up to make such a difference. I hope he gets permission and I hope he goes on to recover his millions as a result. Meanwhile, as an ordinary pleb, I'll continue to enjoy the development of The Amex and everything that is on offer there in the years to come.

I agree with every word

I would think there would have to be some road junction improvements and they never come cheap.

I haven't read the Argus yet but great vision from Tony Bloom and The Albion for this project. One important thing for me would be a widening of the bridge over the A27 or I think as someone else mentioned a new bridge over to the Amex would be a big help. I know this probably wouldn't have happened but a six lane highway between Shoreham and Lewes would have helped relieve the pressure on traffic trying to get to The Amex, but as we know at the time The Amex wasn't even thought of. Maybe it could be widened I don't know, I expect a few experts on here might know.

I was referring to when the Albion were last in the top flight.

Attendances were high for one season, (although never near capacity) then fell sharply.

I know. If we lose the first half dozen, gates would plummet. But there's a lot more to finance in the Prem than crowd numbers

In terms of planning, the Bridge site is allocated for car park and student development use so the principle is agreed, its just the transport and design issues which need to be sorted.

The latest Brighton plan actually supports hotels outside of the city centre providing that they meet the needs of a specific market and could not be located elsewhere, clearly the hotel will be ideally suited to University, Stadium and also (maybe ironically) South Downs National Park and Falmer visitors. The town centre hotels will kick up a stink and it will be a tougher proposal to sell but so long as the transport is not so bad then it also has a good chance.

I would VERY surprised if the AMEX capacity isn't increased in the next five years.

The only way we are going to fill the capacity we have week in week out is being in the prem. So perhaps we need to spend a few million on strikers. Because by the time Ulloa is back fit, this season could just be about survival. Unless we sign someone very good, very soon. I don't think Scunthorpe fans are going to fill Tony's hotel/nightclub/casino.

Their views might well be considered, but I'm not sure a great deal of weight will be attached to their 'stink'.

Besides, even after this, there would still be plenty of hotel guests to go round.

You realise all of this is a long, long, LONG term project right? There is no mad rush to get into the Prem in the next 2-3 years. It'll happen when it happens. And it WILL happen.

I know. If we lose the first half dozen, gates would plummet.

They wouldn't though, as the ground would be entirely* sold out as season tickets.

*At least to the maximum % that they CHOSE to sell as season tickets.

This was nothing like the situation in 1979 when the massive majority of people hadn't committed any money up front.
