Went camping over the weekend in Gosport. Nice campsite.

We decided to head in to town on Saturday. I have never seen so many tatoos in my life. It is also seems to be mobility scooter capital of the south. Want your phone unlocked, no problem. Must have seen about 10 different vendors. I got the feeling after about 30 minutes that we where in Chav capital. Is Gosport, Portsmouth known for this?

It's a shit hole. And yes, Chav central. Would benefit from a good solid napalming, especially the Forton area, and luckily the Rowner nest of rats and thieves is about to get levelled, but this means that the scum at the bottom of the barrel will be spread evenly around the rest of Gosport.

There are lots of mobility vehicles here - most of them seem to issued under the criteria that if you are a fat waster, you get one. All seem capable of 40mph, uninsured and untaxed. They also seem to go from forward to reverse with no warning in the blink of an eye.

Tattoo shops - about 4, ranging in quality from "4 pints" to "f*** me, is that a birth disfigurement" standard. All the best of the worst you could wish to see. And yes, the girls here are the worst transgressors, but at least it detracts from the fact that they seem to be expert tractor-catchers. Who use their faces to catch them. They are fat, foul-mouthed, and generally a perfect subject for genetic eradication.

Gosport has fallen foul of a shit local government marked by little else than nepotism, incest and infighting, with the occasional prison sentence for setting up porny webcams in councillors' slum accommodation. It needs redevelopment, but loses out to Portsmouth on a regular basis.

So at least I was correct. If I crossed the water to Portsmouth on the Gosport ferry, would we have chavs here as well? or it's Portsmouth now a classier place with the Spinnaker tower and new shopping facilities? Because after about 20 minutes of admiring the Naval ships I wondered if we where actually on the wrong side and we may have been better finding a campsite in Portsmouth.

Portsmouth is just as shitty, but you are slightly less likely to get into a fight. In some areas. Gunwharf is OK, and the only campsite I know in Portsmouth is basically a pikey spillover area. I assume the Gosport site is Kingfisher? In which case, the best bet is just to wander down to the beach, use Bayside (not Pebbles Cafe), and chill out down there.

Yes it was Kingfisher. Nice site.

Next time I'm thinking of travelling down to Dorset and seeing what campsites they have down there. Its probably only another 30 miles on the clock.

Good choice. Try Swanage or Poole. Failing that, there are some cracking sites in the New Forest. Isle of Wight is good, but you have to get ripped off by ShiteLink to get over there.

Kingfisher improved. It used to be run by a complete criminal who used to let his mates know when the storage caravans were not being used, and they would rob them! The Weekend Warrior Camp over the road use it like a bar at the weekends, but they don't behave too badly, and the restaurant is pretty good.

Gosport is not somewhere that I would come, despite living here at the moment. There is lots to do (Submarine Museum, Explosion, etc) but the high volume of chavs means that the evenings are out of bounds in town, and sometimes the beaches go the same way.

Gosport's OK. Rough and ready, for sure, but not SCARY rough. Me boy lives there with his g/f and has a nice rented flat in a quiet ex-army barracks type thing. His flat is WAY better than mine. Oh, and the Gosport Ferry has been officially serving the community for 125 years and is officially The Best Thing Ever. IMHO, like.

I like the place
