I've been three times (New York twice and LA once), and there's no doubt whatsoever that I'll go again.

I definitely want to go back to NY again (my favourite city in the world) and I wouldn't mind going to Washington as well at some point.

Faced with living in this grey damp little island with its three weeks of blue skies per year or the USA I'm sure most sane people would choose the USA but each to their own I guess.

:p

I used to go to America a lot, I even have friends and family there, but I refuse to put any of my hard earned money into their country at the moment.

If you want the sun on your back, go to Portugal, Spain. Italy, Greece or France instead. My money now stays firmly in Europe...

The other benefit of the above countries of course is that you wont have to eat cheap, shitty, nasty processed food while you're there.:unclesam:

I've been to Florida 7 or 8 times - mainly for Disney World, a couple of times to just cruise and enjoy the sun down in the Keys and around Miami.

I took my Mum to Vegas for her 60th. (Gambling is a family thing, doncha know).

I've been to New York a few times and think it's a wonderful, wonderful city full of life.

In addition I've had a few trips for work - Rockville and New Jersey.

I love trips to the States - I wouldn't want to live there - but I think I'll be a frequent visitor throughout my life.

I think my next visit to take my soon-to-be 4 year old to Disney World in April or May next year and it will be worth every penny and more for the delight I know I'll see on her face.

(I've also enjoyed my trips to Canada - only Montreal thus far)

USA is a great country to visit. One of the very best. In fact probably THE best.

It's actually not really a country, more like a continent. Most states are bigger than our country, which has it's own share of useless twats and worthless scum.

As for their government, well that's another matter - no country I know of has had such shortsighted unreasoned idiots running the show. The Bushes are probably the reason there ever was a 9/11 attack, and their foreign policies were moronic - so now their only foreign policies left are to try to crusade them into submission.
No real idea on what Iraq or Afghanistan meant, they thought it would be a simple little skirmish, a couple of malcontents shut down, and ...all fixed.

A reasonable idea might have been to as the help of neighbour countries (who were probably never even approached democratically in any effort to ask for their input, even though it would behoove them greatly to have stability there) in putting a ring around Iraq so that no-one could come in, and then take care of business within the country. Instead, the fighters poured in endlessly, they executed anyone not for them, and have encouraged them to civil war within.

Heavy handed and intrinsically unintelligent, the US military have taken on Vietnam part 2, and we are involved.

Still, the US make up a diverse terrain and people. Often socially confused (and as befuddled by their own politicians) they are subject to the propaganda that they are handed and their education system is often woeful.
It's a country that is still trying to grow and manage all the difficulties.

Once you get there though, it would be up to you what you made of things - and you could either have a brilliant experience or a crap one.

Beach Hut you would probably be better off sticking to holidays in Ibiza, or The Bahamas, or something a little more 'packaged' like a safari or guided tour somewhere. New Zealand is reliable, the South Island will be unforgettable, and they speak English very well there too.

The US is a bit more of a challenge, that's all.

The tip about going to Canada is a fine one, if you like cities then you could do far worse than visiting Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto, easily doable in a week or so. Montreal is very European in its outlook, possibly helped by the locals speaking Frence, Toronto is a typical North American city with huge skyscrapers and in Ottawa it felt like I was in a Northern British city. The Canadians love the British and I can honestly say that I was made to feel very welcome wherever I went, there are also fairly large communities of fellow Commonwealth citizens amongst a really healthy mixed race population. I may be biased as I did live there for a couple of years but I would happily recommend anyone to visit the country and grew to love it as much as my own.

I have been once. LA/San Francisco. Yosemite Park was the dog's...

I have no real intention of going again. If I do, it will be a stopover to get to Central or SOuth America again.

DON'T KNOCK KENTUCKY UNTIL YOU HAVE BEEN THERE.
Went there last year for first time and found it a delightful place.
Once people realise you are from England they are delighed to chat to you.
Wonderful countryside.
The only things I did not like are the fact that everyone drives a oversize gas drinking car.
I MEAN OVERSIZE!!!
Every other person when driving seems to be holding a phone in one hand.
Plan on going back next year.

I reluctanltly went to Florida when the children were young (for Disney World) but actually enjoyed it - however it put me off Coca Cola for life!!!!

Last year I did a tour of the Deep South and loved it. I'd like to return to do some other areas but also hope to do the Canadian Rockies and Alaska some time.

If it wasn't for the hurricanes and the fact that I can't afford it, I wouldn't mind a second home in Nashville. It's allegedly the most friendly place in the States and I really enjoyed it there. Great place, great atmosphere and great music!.

I'm not one for beach holidays so touring is fine for me. There's so much to see in America.
