Neil Lennon is at the centre of a Tayside police investigation after they confirmed that a complaint had been made against the player for an alleged incident at Dens Park.
Television pictures appeared to show the midfielder seemingly making a gesture towards a section of the Dundee supporters.
Referee Dougie McDonald missed it which could save him from any possible Scottish Football Association action.
"I can confirm that we have received a complaint regarding an incident at the Dundee v Celtic football match regarding the actions of a player," a Tayside Police spokesman said.
"The incident will be fully investigated in due course."
Police will now interview witnesses and there is likely to be many that will be willing to come forward against the player.
