I took a mate along to the game yesterday. It was his first albion game since the Goldstone era. To say he was shocked by how quiet the place was is an understatement.

The Watford fans were continually goading the Home support for their, well, lack of support.

Very strange atmosphere at home games. Didnt think 25,000 people could be so quiet.

Think the last time the ground was rocking was the home league win against Palace last season. Since then....... nothing even close.

The ground nearly exploded when we banged in those 3 against Bolton a few weeks ago. It is a fantastically special place when "rocking" and will be again next time the play on the pitch triggers the crowd into collective excitement.

Evening games are always flatter, especially to start off (e.g. Fanzone is a complete non-event played out to about 5,000 people in their seats by then...). Last night, to make things worse we went a goal down early on and then only created a few chances. Also, immediately after we scored, which is normally the time for at least a bit of "rocking", Watford dominated possession and threatened our goal for the next 10 minutes instead of us kicking on.

Last night, to make things worse we went a goal down early on and then only created a few chances which never helps. Also, immediately after we scored, which is normally the time for at least a bit of "rocking", Watford unfortunately dominated possession and threatened our goal for the next 10 minutes which acted as a handbrake on the celebratory atmosphere...

The Bolton game wasn't a good atmosphere. The crowd cheered for each goal and more excitedly each time but it was still quiet before and after the goals. The palace game last year had a constant buzz feeling in the air.

Like AVB said on the weekend. The fans have a responsibility to get behind the team. Like you say the crowd will be louder when the team plays well. But maybe the players need the crowd to be louder before they play well?

Seemed this group were stifled by the song police and the our way or no way junta,

They weren't stifled, the debate on NSC happened after the match. Is this a new line of shit-stirring with you now you've been given your final warning regarding leaving early?

What do you get out of these threads you start? Coming across like a retarded 50 year old whose sole purpose on here is to wind people up? Yes, you've supported the club a very long time and you don't much like that others haven't given you the recognition you think you deserve. I know it's not nice to hear but you really need to come to terms with the fact that it ain't gonna happen.

Funny but all these people moaning about the atmosphere at the Amex - did you all have laryngitis during the Withdean years 'cause quite often the atmosphere was so dead you could hear the players on the pitch

Matin Tyler has just commented on tonight's live Arsenal game that Prem league clubs need safe standing to start getting atmos back into the game - it's everywhere folks, Arsenal has 60,000 and it's no louder than The Amex
It's the way the game as gone in this country, I watch Bundesliga football highlights every Monday night on itv4 10 pm and the stadiums are packed with passionate fans all making a brilliant atmos in safe standing stadiums the noise at these grounds is immense, it doesn't matter how much you lot argue about this & that surrounding atmos at the Amex the only solution to get grounds rocking again is safe standing, if it doesn't happen then get used to the Amex atmos as it is because won't improve much, it's still better than a lot of grounds anyway and the fact that were 15th in the table and playing with a depleted squad not winning many games is another factor behind a subdued atmos

I agree. The atmosphere is better now than it was at the Withdean. But, the Withdean was open air and only 6,000 in attendance.

I think its going to be one of those things. The away support will out sing the home support more often than not. Like we do at some away games too.

This season has been poor for atmosphere. I think it's a lack of belief in the team at the moment.

When we scored last night the volume really ramped up then they had us under the cosh for a few minutes and the crowd shut up again.

Rotr has always been upset more with the club not making it easier for a singing section. Some fans are just not the sort to make a noise and the ones that want to sing are spread out to thinly.

Go Left is boring and unsupportive.

It's out of context. It's a marching song from the 70s away days. It has no real place supporting the team in modern football. Ironically you could make an argument that this is why we should keep it, because it's different.

Say what you like about the Palace Always Ultras, they're not a gang of McKenzie clad goons churning out offensive nonsense that no one can understand to the tune of Sloop John B. They're a gang of side parted goons who need a drum and a police escort to get going but once they're in situ they're pretty effective and unified and most importantly different. So I don't mind us doing something different. I just wish it was louder.

And before anyone gives it the 'why don't you join in grandad' line I do but being in the WSU the singers are pretty split up.
