Really glad Glen Brown has been mentioned, in amongst the other greats, as he's so often overlooked.

Nows a good time to bring some Yabby You into the mix I reckon. He has plenty of gems to choose from though.

Indeed he has, I've got a quadruple vinyl compilation of his Blood and Fire released. And the Yabby U Linval Thompson tunes on Dub Conqueror (?) are quality Verrrry heavy...

I'm a big Glen Brown fan. Always nice to "check the winner"

Vivian Jackson is another massive favourite of mine. I do like heavyweight sounds in general. Have to get some Ras Michael & The Sons of Negus up soon I reckon. Meanwhile, I'm searching for a dub favourite of mine - Mozabites - from the Prince Fari & the Arabs Cruff Tuff Dub Encounter Chapter 1. Not getting much joy though. :(

When I was a young school boy Misty in Roots played right here in Hastings at the White Rock \Theatre of all places. Luckily for me a mates dad worked there at the time and my mate gave me his free copy of their - Live At The Counter Eurovision 79 - album. Even luckier for me I suppose was that my mate was more into New Order & the likes than reggae. :)

No he didn't unfortunately. It was cancelled as I remember it was your good self that tipped us off about the gig on here. The man never did ride into town on his CB200 after all.

No luck with Prince fari's dub piece - Mozabites. Endless choices form his vocal pieces, but I think this wins it for me.

Nice cut to The Wailers Hypocrites from Tappa Zukie here. Had to give a mention to Tappa Zukie on this thread somewhere.

Ah, I love King Cry Cry, the voice of thunder... Have you heard the live album he did with Suns of Arqa? Just mesmerising

I have a fair bit of Prince Fari on vinyl but not that album no. Hard to put Suns of Arqa into a box, which is the whole point of course

And THOSE Singers and Players albums, with the right crowd (appreciative) I used to play the 3 track 'slave ship rhythm' 'Dungeon/ Merchant Ship/ Jah Army Band' which opened Revenge of the Underdog.
When I DJ-ed...
which I have to do again...

On-U sound was my main intro to the world of Reggae and Dub- and what a teacher!

Never got too much of Adrian Sherwoods stuff to be honest. On the Uk dub side of things then, did you ever get into Alpha & Omega ?

I particularly liked this when Shaka used to play it at The Rocket in Holloway Rd.

Got a little of Alpha and Omega, like Zion Trains rootsier stuff too...

re: Sherwood, did you know he was responsible for releasing Cry Tuff Dub Encounter 1 on his Hit Run label in the uk?

And the Pay It All Back concerts with Dub Syndicate, African Headcharge, Bim Sherman (RIP), Akabu etc were fantastic, Sherwood mixing it all live.

I know it is a different sound, just one that I love

Been doing a bit of singers and players searching on youtube and seems I may have missed out there. Can't seem to find that track you mention. Any chance you could find it and post it up here ?

To be honest I more had Sherwoods Dub Syndicate stuff in mind like Strike The Balance. Seems I could do myself a favour and look furhter into Adrian Sherwoods catalogue. I never got into African Headcharge at all, but it's nice to hear you mention Akabu as I saw them play live a few times, mostly as support.

The copy I have of Cry Tuff Dub Encounter Chapter I says it's The roir sessions but the release seems to be by Danceteria, licensed from Reachout International Records (ROIR).
