I watched the DVD of Woodstock last night.

What a f***ing great experience that must have been.

The best bit for me was Ten Years After playing Going Home. Unbelievable.

I saw Ten Years After a few months ago. Leo Lyons at 66 years of age was jumping around the stage like he was still at Woodstock.

f***ing great.

I've recently re-watched The Isle of Wight DVD-couldn't see myself on it though....mind you, could hardly see anything when I was there for 4 days either:smokin:

Yep, I saw them a couple of years ago too - and Alvin Lee was just as good as ever and could (amazingly) play "I'm Going Home" like it was effortless . I recall he was in the middle of a solo at one point, and turned to adjust his amp without breaking a beat.
Easily one of the better bands I saw at Alexander Palace Festival in the 70's, along with Wild Turkey, Vinegar Joe, Sabbath and others.

I saw Ten Years After at the Reading Festival in 1983. They were mind-numbingly tedious. Almost as bad as another band on the same day called The Enid. Painful. Seemed to go on and on and on for days.

Being a mere 44 years old I didn't start going to stuff like that until a bot later, but I look back with fondness (albeit hazy fondness) at Captain Beefheart at Knebworth and the Stones at the same venue, with the huge lips stage. Not a big Floyd fan but also saw them there when they had the plane come down on a wire and "crash" into the stage. Best festival experiences though were mid 70s Cambridge Folk Festivals. Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee, pewter mugs attached to your belt, lots of off stage diddly performed by amateur stragglers (but I did hear "Mama don't allow no guitar playing here" a few too many times). Marvellous scenes.

DRF - same age as me matey. Do you remember Lynyrd Skynyrd at Kebworth that year. When they played Freebird the whole f***ing place went absolutely mental and Ronnie Van Zandt was the only person who had the bottle to go out to the edge of Mick Jagger's stage.

Zef - TYA are still touring although Alvin Lee's place is taken by Joe Gooch who is a top guitarist.

Marvellous scenes :clap2:

Oh yes, I do remember the Skynyrd set and Freebird - top musical moment LoL! Oh and weren't 10cc there (ZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz) or was that another year? Can't for the life of me remember anyone else who played there. I remember there was a rumout that it would be the last Stones gig ever, and here we are TWENTY-SEVEN YEARS years later and they're still going!

What are these DVD things you lot keep talking about? Can I play them on my gramaphone?

Lynyrd Skynyrd's Freebird has to be one of the greatest rock tracks ever. They always used to close the Radio Caroline roadshow with it, the place always went mental. Class.

Bought the best of Sly and the Family Stone yesterday. Pure genius. Do I get counted in as an old bastard?

"Dance to the Music" and "Everyday People" are works of true genius.

Anyone remember when the Skynyrd played at the Brighton Dome in the 1970s/early 80s. They were supporting Golden Earring at the time but absolutely played them off the stage. The highlight of the evening was Freebird when the whole place went bananas. The memory has stayed with me for many years and always will. What a band....

Bloody hell!....Dinosaurs revisited eh?....The year?..1976?..Yep, I was there as a spotty faced teenage oik  Wasn't Todd Rungren on the bill as well? At the time of his set, I'd overindulged in "recreational chemicals" as remember! :O I remember the Stones keeping everyone waiting for around two hours before they decided to make an appearance. Their performance that day was a real anti-climax. My last memory is waking up in the car park on Sunday morning around 8am before crawling into a mates car. What did we do on getting home? Straight to the pub!

Hawkwind in Tunbridge Wells with paper plates being launched from the stage as flying saucers with strobes on was actually quite effective. Wouldn't get away with such low tech stage shows these days, happy days.
