I've just been listening to Radio Caroline on the internet. They are playing some fantastic stuff today, in the last hour I've heard stuff like Genesis, Kinks, Blue Mink, Cream, Led Zep and Beatles. Southern FM eat your heart out!

Caroline is currently celebrating 40 years of broadcasting and currently broadcasts from a studio in Maidstone. Just a bit different from the pirate days on the North Sea!

Highly recommended to old farts. Listen here http://www.radiocaroline.co.uk/

Anyone else remember the pirate stations of the sixties and seventies?

I do and I remember when the original Caroline ship left the Essex coast to sail around to the Isle of Man passing Brighton on the way.

My Dad told me I was forbidden to listen to Radio Caroline because it was a pirate radio and I would get prosecuted for listening to it!!! :jester:

Needless to say I didn't take any notice :lolol:

I have a lot of original Beatles & stones records. My son also loves than music as much as I.

I remember Radio Caroline. It might not have been illegal to listen to pirate stations, but I do remember smuggling a radio to bed and listening to it under my pillow.

Sounds familiar, I can remember my mum being worried when we listened to Wonderful Radio London in case a policeman walked by and heard it! When all we had was the Light Programme the pirates were really fantastic, all on crackly AM too!

That's true or try and get Luxembourg in the evenings where the signal used to fade just as your favourite record came on:lol:

I like all classical music, Elgar, Handel, Bach, Beatles, etc. It's great listening to 70s albums I haven't heard for years. A few months ago for the first time in about 25 years I heard Hamburger Concerto by Focus. Absolutely brilliant.

On the road again - a classic

Ps Brovian I like quite a lot of classical music too

As a young lad, Radio Caroline and Radio london were essential listening. Harold Wilson passed a law baning them from broadcasting. As they were outside British waters, how it would have been enforced, I don't know? The operators of the pirate stations generally complied with the directive, and shortly after, Radio one came into being.

No manufactured boy bands or rap n dance crap in those days my son....*sigh*

BTW When I lived in South Africa, the government banned the beatles, so the only place you could hear beatles stuff was Radio LM ( Lorenzo Marques - Mozambique)

LM was very much like Caroline

Anyone used to listed to Radio Luxembourg

I remember when Elvis died...Luxembourg went into meltdown

Oh yeah Luxembourg, used to listen to Lucky Luxembourg a lot, I heard the Elvis news on there. There are loads of sites that cover the old stations and some have clips of the old programmes on them. Time to go searching methinks!
