Hey all,

Now that Glastonbury has become an over commercialised money making machine piece of crap what's the best music festival experience in the UK? The music isn't my biggest concern, it's more about the people and the atmosphere. Any suggestions?

I recently went to the one day Beer and Jazz festival in Greenwich and had an awesome time. Highly recommended.

Glastonbury is still the best by a long chalk.

i did All Tomorrow's Parties, and that was cool and comfortable and mildly ridiculous considering you're housed in a Butlins. Nice clash of cultures and all of it not too expensive really. £170 for the chalet and the all the music thrown in. And beers were £3 a pint. It had its own tv channels full of film, a little cinema to go and snooze in and the seafront a hundred yards away. A bloody lovely time with an amazing Saturday night of tunes.
Idid the Greenman a few years ago and that was lovely and calming too. but ATP took it a step above and enforces a return next year.

Glastonbury doesn't attract me now.

ATP is the nicest festival :)

I have been to ATP the last couple of years and it is great. It is spot on in terms of my taste in music, but everything about it is good, particularly staying in a chalet for the weekend.

Saying that I am going to Glasto as well which is also great, but in a different way.

Glastonbury is nowhere near as commercialised and plastic as V Festival or Reading.

For a small-scale Glastonbury without the commercialism, Bestival on the Isle of Wight is great (plus the ferry ride makes you think its abroad which is a bonus)

I went to the My Bloody Valentine ATP last December and had a ball. Nice to have a proper bed to sleep in and shall be returning for Godspeed! My Black Emperor later in the year.

Returning to Glastonbury after a year off later this month.

For a smaller festival experience, try Truck.

Why not do both eh? Festivals are amazing fun amazing, I just got back from spending 3 days in Barcelona dancing like a fool to brilliant music from 5pm to 5am and I had the best time.

ATP and Pirmavera you stay in proper accomodation by the way, ATP is held at Butlins and Prima is no camping so need to rent an apartment, or sleep on the beach like some crazy idiots.

Fair enough. It's genuinely one of the biggest mysteries in life to me why people enjoy spending days on end in a tent drowned in other people's piss without the facilities to wash properly. Each to their own though:thumbsup:

Much the same in that other people will look at us as Brighton fans and wonder why we spend the best part of a couple of hundred quid on going to Hartlepool for an FA cup game midweek.
Horses for courses really.

I'm off to Donington on Wednesday. First went in 1982! Last did Glastonbury in 1986, when it was still good.

Why not avoid living like a tramp for 3 days and use the money to go somewhere nice instead? You can take your iPod too. I'd rather chop my cock off than go to a music festival.

It is quite possible to do both, you just have to know what you're doing.

Next week I'll be heading off on another road trip to Stone Mountain, Georgia, for Atlanta Fest. I will enjoy 3.5 days of excellent music in VIP seats right at the front, between the stage and the masses in the pit, and then each night retire to this place, which is just a couple of hundred yards away from the main stage.
