In front of the PC
sounds like a problem with your firewall.

I rember someone posting this link. Did you try this by any chance?
http://msncheck.41m.com/ what ever happens dont do it its a scam.

"Registering on this site allows the site to use your details, and access your account. It will change your screen name so that all your contacts see the message 'http://msncheck.41m - free way to see who has deleted and blocked you on msn'. It will continuously change your screen name, even if you switch it back. As well as this it will download a toolbar onto your Internet Explorer, and be able to download spyware and viruses onto your computer.

If you have registered with this site you should change your MSN password immediately, and warn any of your friends who may have seen the message on your screen name."

Thank god i never did it but rember seeing that loads of you did try it.
People should be more carfull in what the put up on this foram.

I've had the same problem before. I logged off then came back online and when that didn't work I uninstalled MSN and reinstalled it, it's worked fine ever since.

Failed to connect to the service. This could be due to improper proxy or firewall settings?

Most likely, you could get in touch with MSN if you're not sure. Do you have a firewall or use a proxy ? The chances are I'm talking greek to you right now, no disrepect intended.

Let us know although I'm a bit surprised that an uninstall in fresh install didn;t clear it.

If you have a firewall on the computer then MAKE SURE IT'S RUNNING before you start MSN as programs will be configured to work through it. If the firewall isn't running you'll just get an error.

Whichever Firewall was previously running when MSN was working okay. If one has been installed recently or MSN has been upgraded, that could be the problem.

Quickest way is to uninstall MSN and then reinstall with the Firewall on. Should solve your problem but I guess you've realised that already :)
