"In a move still to be announced officially, it seems that the referee, Mr. Steve Bennet will never officiate at another top level Premiership game again, following his demotion by the FA for his outrageous conduct during Sunday's Mancheste United-Arsenal match. On the 81st minute of the fiery-tempered game Mr Bennet controversially sent off the Arsenal captain Patrick Viera for a second bookable offence, thus leaving the visiting team to defend with 10 men for the final 10 minutes of the game. The decision categorically contravenes FA directive OTS 1.2, paragraph 7, point 6, which states that at Manchester United home games, visiting captains should be sent off much much earlier than this in order to afford the home team a suitable advantage and thus a reasonable chance to win the game. Furthermore, when the home team were awarded a penalty in the dying seconds, and still failed to score, it is common practice for the ball to be replaced on the spot and penalty retaken over and over until the home team scores.
It seems that Mr Bennet finally sealed his fate by blowing the whistle signalling the end of the game soon after the penalty miss, when the FA directives on such matters state clearly that: "The game shall continue until Manchester United score, no matter how much extra extra-time is needed, and no matter how unfair it obviously is on the opposition. At Old Trafford, the regular FIFA laws of the game do NOT apply."
