The government should try doing what the province of Ontario does. All alcohol sales are controlled by the LCBO (Liquor Control Board of Ontario).

The only places you can buy alcohol are pubs/bars/clubs/restaurants/cafes that have been licensed by the LLBO (Liquor Licensing Board of Ontario). But you cannot buy to take out, you have to consume on the premises.

The only place to buy alcohol for personal use in Ontario are the LCBO shops and the Beer Store shops and because they are highly regulated, they do check ID's. Unfortunately, they've never asked to see mine.

That's it, no supermarkets, corner shops, or any other establishment selling alcohol for personal use.

They probably do, but that shouldn't concern you! Know your place down here with the rest of us Prols & be thankful for what they decide is right for us. Polititians are our friends & continue to work tirelessly for our benefit. They're lovely, they are.

Where does this end? Logically if you're going to drive up the price of alcohol to prevent anti-social behaviour will you crack down on Ronnie Macs and the like discounting the price of burgers? Just because it's cheap people are not obliged to get off their faces and behave appallingly any more than cheap food means you have to be Mr Creosote. When will people accept responsibility for their own behaviour?

And another unrelated whinge I've been meaning to get off my chest for a while now. When will the credit crunch start to affect chavs and benefit scroungers? At what point will they be told "Oh I'm sorry there's nothing for you this month. Perhaps you might like to try working for a living you freeloading chav bastard".

I hate chavs. They should be culled. Humanely of course.

A woman was complaining on the radio earlier that a supermarket refused to serve her beer because her son of about 12/13 years old was heard by the cashier to say dont buy Carlsberg mum I dont like it buy Carling or Stella. The cashier refused to sell it saying that she believed that it was for the son but the woman said it was for her and her husband. I think that the cashier was correct in her actions.

I wish that was true but it is not quite. You are right it is controlled much more strictly, but our local Loblaws supermarket sells alcohol. Not in the main part of the store but in a separate boutique that has been licensed to sell it.

I too have never been into a pub during a happy hour, and can't even remember having seen one.

This thread reminds me of getting drunk for the first time. Two cans of Gold Label beer bought from Spar from my older mate with with money earned from delivering papers.

If the kids want to get blasted, let em.

Good point. Isn't that just Ontario wines only? I have seen them about at certain Loblaws in Toronto, but that's it. They don't sell beer or other types of alcohol.

I agree with this. Back when I was a student, my housemate used to buy ecstasy when he didn't have enough money to buy alcohol (he reconed it gave a similar effect to a good night on the sauce, but for only £1 a pill). Raising alcohol prices may well cause more young people to turn to drugs.

Somehow people need to be educated, not priced out of the market.

Your right strings,i firmly believe that when people get priced out of one vice they will then turn to a cheaper alternative.There is also the other possibility
that to feed their vices they will turn to burglary and robbery.
