Moving to Seaford or Rye ... comments?

I moved to seaford from Brighton 5 years ago, although quite I come to love it,
Great place to raise the kids , nice flat beach, good for bike rides and walks
Good schools but like most places the odd weirdo and trouble estate
Best thing is direct train to Falmer

Agree with most of this apart from the trouble estate, where is this?

Eastbourne is much like Brighton - good parts and bad parts.

im curious what the requirements for pre-retirement are that came up with Rye and Seaford. cant think much in common other than sleepy and sussex, im sure alot of other places would fit that.

Price, Sussex (or ish), that's about it. Early days and will look beyond these but seen some nices places ( online) in these 2 so seemed reasonable places to start

I don't know about too good but in our "quick" scoot along the coast from Brighton all the way up to Folkestone my take on Eastbourne wasn't positive, but I saw very little. Can't afford (don't want to afford) Lewes and to the west is about right

All the Seafordians I've ever know seem to think they are better than their East of the the Seven Sisters counterparts. One even pronounces it C.Ford. As if it was someone's name. Largely stereotyping I'm sure.

This is the correct answer.

And for those slagging Eastbourne off, there seems to be a lot of double standards. Eastbourne is a large town, of course there are troubled parts but for the most part it's a lovely town to live in and, like Seaford has a fantastic situation. I have lived in both and can heartily recommend them.

I dont think you know Seaford that well,Lewes is a totally different place when you next visit drive up Firle Rd and then tell me these people can not afford to live in Lewes.

Or along by Seaford Head golf course, or near the secondary school or Belgrave Road area etc etc etc.

Hastings makes Seaford look a rip off. You might not like it but get double for your money and some really nice areas. Much nicer town than Eastbourne but granted probably not what you're looking for?

Heard a lot from people who live or have lived in Seaford but no one from Rye? Well I lived six years in Rye and they were some of the best days of my life. A town with the mentality of a country village. Every day you feel you are deep in the country and living history. It has a great golf course and although I dont know about living in the twon itself there are so many satellite villages (Icklesham, Peasmarsh, Winchelsea, Iden) that are just gorgeous. The rail system and bus connect direct to Hastings and Ashford and although the roads are windy and slow to Hastings its not awful. If I didnt need a job, this is where Id live.

Take a walk along both seafronts. Look at the quality of the buildings, repair, upkeep etc. Look at the presentation of the planting. I'm afraid Hastings does not score well. And then consider the proximity of Eastbourne to the downs. I've got nothing against Hastings but it cannot compare well with Eastbourne.

There is more to Hastings than a seafront & bedding plants,The old town is just unique.Hastings country park with its glens which are over 10,000 yrs old,ferns,wild flowers etc is easily as nice as the downs. Anyway Rye is lovely,I spent most of my childhood there & is where my Dad stayed all of his life, Small town with a market on a Thursday. If you like walks & a quiet beach, Rye harbour nature reserve is the place, 25 min drive to Hastings, the roads not that bad.
