There was a horse named ' Mouldy Old Dough ' owned by a certain Peter Hopkins, who was a racehorse owner and ferocious gambler in the 70's and 80's. I knew him through racing connections and saw MOD run at Plumpton once. It was odds on favourite in a two-horse race and fell.
Any bookies around the circuit then would remember Peter Hopkins for the size of his bets.( Ten grand on a horse in the 70's was a regular bet for him )
I keep trying to persuade myself that he had a horse called Lieutenant Pigeon as well but I'm sure I'm mistaken.
