All good points. I have a slightly bigger rear sprocket which has increased the low end a little, and as you say the Rotax engine is decent and goes well. I had a 71 oil in the frame Bonny so have had the originals as well but at my age I needed electronic ignitionNot ridden one but seen and read reviews the engine is based upon the old BMW F650 of the 1990s which has been updated by Rotax in Austria with input from Ricardos in Lancing.
The Indian owners of the BSA branding are Mahindra who like Indian conglomerate Eicher who own Royal Enfield and produce the very good 650 interceptor have really gone for the updated nostalgia with the designs.
The new BSA 650 leans heavily back to the original BSA Goldstar and in doing so almost pulls it off if it wasn’t for the huge ugly radiator needed to comply with modern emissions regulations.
To both companies credit the BSA and Royal Enfield have been designed in the UK with both companies working towards setting up manufacturing here in the uk at some point.
Clearly both companies are keen to get the original names known to a new generation but with reliability up to modern standards ready for Electric versions in the pipeline in fact Royal Enfield are very close to unveiling their first one soon.
All in all I have only heard positives regarding the new Mahindra BSA 650 it sounds sweet looks the part if you can ignore the radiator reliability should be very good with a tried and tested Rotax engine.
