My MOT expires next week so I was wondering if anyone could recommend somewhere reliable and trustworthy that does them?

Friend of the Albion, Rapid Auto Centre, ask for Gary Stevens (really) in Portslade, 01273 422128.

Funny man. Could you recommend me one of these 'garages' you speak of?

OK sorry, yes I could but doubt you would want to drive to Worthing. I would also recommend you avoid the garages that offer half price MOT's. I've heard that although they offer half price, they then of course find a problem fail you and charge you a lot more to do the repairs.

try the industrial estate at the bottom of Whitehawk, bell or bell tower. Just mot's is the best as they don't do the work needed so they don't look for work that's not there. take the car back inside 10 day's when the work is done, the re-test is free.

Go to a place that just does MOTs, like Just MOTs - no vested interest in failing you and if you do fail they'll give you a free retest once you've had the work done elsewhere.

Edit - I agree with minnieme!

Cheers for the tip with Just MOTs! Think I'll be going back there in the future.

My car failed on four counts; nearside and offside stop lamps not working, offside rear break light lamp incomplete and nearside rear brake pipe excessively corroded.

Anyone know a trustworthy mechanic? lol

So you have been driving around with no brake lights. White light showing through at the back and brakes about to fail! :nono:

Yes. Obviously had I known that I would not have took it out on the road. Do you know any decent garages/mechanics so I can get it all fixed then?

Seconded - my father runs a MOT test centre in Hove and has no licence to make repairs, so has absolutely no interest in finding problems with the cars other than those that are genuine and relevant to the test.

How the f*** can you take a car for an MOT without checking lights, tyres, washer bottles and wipers first. :wozza:

"offside rear break light lamp incomplete" so it was broken ? didn't' take Einstein to work it was going to fail,
So not for the brake pipe you would have wasted £30-50 for them to tell you the lights did not work :shootself

Is this normal behavior for taking a car to an MOT.
or is it just me that spends 30 mins going around it looking for potential failure points first ?
