Why did people dislike Barry Lloyd he's the only one who on little resources got us within 90 mins of the top division.

although in recent times i have been quite pro mcghee, im starting to lose my respect for him. i know he has a tough job down here and also think we would struggle to find anybody that would do well at the mo. but im doubting him a little now. he is the most unpopular.

I'm in the same boat. The famous team spirit that we had is gone, and with McGhee falling out with players and his personal bias and favouritism in team selection, it's easy to see why he is so unpopular.

Even less competent managers like Hinsh have not been personally disliked anywhere near as much.

lots of people with very short memories on here!
Those that remember the days of barry Lloyd will remember that he was the most unpopular manager with the fans. Yes he almost got us to the top division, but the poll asks for the most unpopular....
McGee has a long way to go to achieve the years of (un)popularity that Lloyd had. And you think that McGee had strange ideas of subs...well that was something that Lloyd did even worse!

Wasn't our highest position in recent times after the Burnley victory in the 2002-03 season - under Hinshelwood?

The voting might be a slightly biased as some people weren't around in the Lloyd era

I can't see why Jimmy Case isn't winning. He was a good player yes but as a manager he was appalling.

Barrel of Fun

Abort, retry, fail
This is the crappest poll!! Of course McGhee is going to 'win' this one. Do people really care about the other managers that were shit, anymore? Many fans struggle to see the bigger picture, a dose of reality is needed.

I feel McGhee deserves respect even after he leaves the club. He has taken us further than any manager in recent years.

I voted for Wood. He was unpopular IMO. Case wasn't really unpopular as he was still regarded as a legendary player.

Sums it up for me. Wood was bad but Case was even worse bearing in mind he totally wasted what little cash we had. He may not have been the least popular but he was the most useless.

However I wonder how many people who voted in this poll actually supported Brighton during his reign. When it comes to crap managers Jimmy Melia was dreadful too. The board should never have got rid of Mike Bailey but he wasn't popular. I am sure wityh the benefit of hindsight we would not have been relegated.

Would Bailey have got us to the Cup Final ?
Would you have swapped that great day at Wembley(Final ,not replay!) for survival in the old First Division in 82-83? I don't think I would, as even then the clubs finances weren't great,(the Goldstone wasn't sold out once[for League matches] during our 4 year stay in Div 1 ) , so the best players would have been sold ,almost inevitably leading to relegation the following year.

I would in a heartbeat. We went steadily downhill after relegation. The fact that there were no parachute payments in those days didn't help. The same thing happened to both Bristol City and Carlisle too.

I remember the glorious 2-2 draw but would rather forget the drubbing in the replay.
