Good gornless harmless fun though, eh? Who amongst us hasn't at some point in their lives felt the marketing-instilled urge to don the silly leprechaun hat and drink their annual few pints of Guinness in something approximating to an Oirish pub (or at least one serving a free Jamiesons with every pint of the black stuff). Bejaysus!

I'm all for drinking free Guiness I guess. I used to enjoy the days when Guinness took over Cabot Square in Canary Wharf and got all the workers pissed at lunchtime on their free drinks, and also handed out other free tat. But to be honest, I wouldn't have given a monkeys what day of the year they did it.

Normal people recognise that proper countries like England, France, USA, Germany etc don't need a special day to celebrate it.

I've never been aware of a German "national day" but they're not the biggest for pushing national identity for specific reasons..

HOWEVER - the US has Independence Day which is extensively celebrated and the French have Bastille Day which is also extensively celebrated.

Halloween was always celebrated here but even as a kid I was aware that it wasn't in the UK. I dunno why this has changed.

I've had nine little skelingtons, witches ,warlocks etc at my door happily grabbing their bags of haribot and running back to Mums who were with them on paedophile patrol.

The kids love it.Their faces light up;it's a chance for free sweeties and they have no idea what it's about except it's fun.

Good fun,and good luck to the nippers.

When I was young the begging opportunity was Guy Fawkes.Anybody remember him ?

The wonders of living in a new housing estate, it appears there's no kids old enough to come around

The downside is that I'll be having haribo for desert for a few weeks now.

defo Halloween is the worst. at least Valentines is a long standing tradition that still represents the same as it always has done, even if fluffed up by card manufacturers.

Halloween was always celebrated here but even as a kid I was aware that it wasn't in the UK. I dunno why this has changed.

It was in Scotland.

Guising, more focus on the religious origins with singing, rather than threats, for treats. (wiki told me this)

Cheshire Cat

The most curious thing..
They are all just rackets to get people to buy useless cards and overpriced other tat.

Nothing is as important as Christmas.
Christmas is the day god sent us Jesus in celebration of his love for Capitalism and M&S Christmas adverts as early as september.

Halloween seems a little pointless to me... its making childeren dress up to beg.
Then again, I loved it as a child.
Maybe I'm just boring.

Oh yes, i forgot about the son of god, let me pray.
