REM at Portsmouth Guildhall on the "Green" tour. During this tour their popularity soared in the UK, on stage they were simply awesome.
U2 Lovetown tour in Paris, 1989. Although most of the memories relate to the "nightlife" for a young and innocent 17 year old!!

Yep, that was a good night out- a few moths later it was Wembley arena for them, on the plus side Throwing Muses supported (I think) on the downside The Blue Aeroplanes didn't - shits and roundabouts, shits and roundabouts

A difficult call - my top 5 for different reasons:
Led Zep at Earls Court '75 - in the presence of greatness
Bruce Springsteen - Brighton Centre '81, probably the best - and longest overall gig by one artist
The Who at Charlton FC - so much raw energy and even louder than Led Zep indoors
Pink Floyd - Wemberlee Stadium '94 - best technical music & visuals
U2 - Top Rank Suite, Brighton '82 - most promising up and coming band....

I was lucky enough to see Jackson United who are Chris Shiflett from Foo Fighters side band at The Water Rats in London a couple years ago. It was a surprise early christmas present from my g/f & i didn't even know they were playing over here.
Amazing gig in a tiny venue by a band who barely ever play together because of Chris's Foos commitments.

Uk subs again

Mine:-

UK Subs with the Passions in 1980/1 at Crawley Tech - gig only lasted 45 mins total, with skinheads gobbing off Passions after 2 songs and UK Subs 3 songs near riot!

This made me smile. I went to see the UK Subs play at the Top Rank Suite in 1980. The support act were called The Dodgems. They opened with a song called 'Lord Lucan is Missing'. Things came flying onto the stage after the first note. They just about made it to the end of the song when the lead singer decided to swear at the crowd who then invaded the stage and took all their equipment. I remember seeing someone wandering round several hours later with a bass guitar up their jumper but with the fretboard sticking out of the top! I always wondered if he managed to get home with it. The Uk subs were really good - it was the classic line-up at that time - they were at their peak. It was just mayhem in the crowd. Towards the end of the gig the lead guitarist Nicky Garratt started smashing a microphone stand down on the audience. He was shouting 'ten on to one aint fair' (maybe with a few expletives thrown in). The gig was finally stopped when the police raided the place following the incident with Garratt and at that point most of the audience exited very rapidly via the Fire Exits! I guess Uk Subs concerts in the 80s were just memorable!

Memorable because it was brilliant - two of those, hard to separate them: Jam @ Guildford Civic Hall 1981 and The Specials @ The Centre last year [my Mum wouldn't let me go the first time round and I think they only played The Suite, so I couldn't get in anyway]

Saw The Specials last year and was one of my favourite ever gigs. Too young the first time round. Going again in October this year.

A few that stand out for me

Spiritualized at the albert hall 97 - There is a double live album of this and it was amazing.
Foo fighters reading 95 - Their first festival appearance in the second stage tent, so packed so hot and awesome
Foo fighters wembley stadium 2009 - The opposite of the reading appearance, the peak of their career possibly and led zep on stage with them for the encore.
Readiohead glastonbury 97 - Awesome set with a band at the very peak of their greatness
Manic street preachers London town and country club 93- The one time I saw them with the original line up and they were just pure rock and roll.
Stereophonics at the Albert hall 2004 - Not so much for the headliners but the support was Paul weller accoustically performing with James dean bradfield, kelly jones, ronnie wood and roger daltrety. Excellent all round.

Another that I'll never forget (for all the wrong reasons) was The Jesus & Mary Chain up The Holloway Road at North London Poly 15 March 1985. Both support acts (mint Julips and Meat Whiplash, both shire) just baited the audience all set at the height of JAMC's NME fuelled notoriety but the crown managed to hold on until the headliners hit the stage before rioting. It was so overcrowded, a toilet window was being used all night as an alternate entry door for those without tickets, and when JAMC finally came on stage and launched into a feedback racket of an opener with Bobby Gillespie's inaudibel prone drumming followed by audience abuse from the singing Reid it just went off. Gig shut down after less than 10 minutes of the main act and totally mayhem, coppers everywhere (I think they'd been waiting for it). My friends pulled me out as I was totally hammered and getting into it, not my proudest moment but that's what pints of Guniness and Barley Wine chased with brandy does to you - geez it was fun at Poly.........
