Apologies if fixtures.

BBC Sport - Football - Graham Turner refutes Southampton financial jibes

They really are doing a good job of pissing off everyone they play this season aren't they?!

I particularly liked this quote:

"I'm not sure whether they still think they're a Manchester United or a Chelsea - they're playing among the smaller fry of the Football League now," Turner added.

The thing is, there is a sensible discussion and compromise to be had on these things. We had it at Aston Villa, hopefully we've had it with Woking at our place. It's about maths (eg 9,000 x £10 vs 3,000 x £25), with maybe atmosphere concerns factored in.

What you don't need is some cheapshot merchant coming out with crap like that just to score a point at the expense of Shrewsbury, who have got a 'plum tie', need the money and may genuinely have thought they will lose out. How desperate are Southampton, seriously. I reckon 95 per cent of the people on here could do their PR better.

Why do they feel the need to publicise any of that? Why don't they just announce the ticket prices and leave it at that.

Twats.

"They're only about 15 places above us and they're a club who've fallen on hard times, so if I were them I'd be a bit more respectful to other teams in the League, especially where they find themselves at the moment."

Nail, head. Nasty disrespectful club, I will love it if they choke this season.

In all fairness I'm with the SCC on this. When we have a similar situation with falmer are you going to be happy to pay £35 to watch the likes of luton, Oxford and other lower league clubs. They're clearly trying to get fans thru the gate just as we are for the Woking game

Couple of fabulous quotes from Turner there. The SCC really are disrespectful arseholes with ideas above their station. I so hope that they blow it again this season

I'd imagine staying up is a priority.

What a nasty little club Southampton are.

How exactly are we a nasty little club? Heres the article it was responding to.

Southampton | News | Latest News | Latest News | Taming Of The Shrews

The club often has games where minimal gate prices are charged just to get punters through the door and create a better atmosphere. After all its always around Xmas and people generally have less cash. How do you think we got a crowd of nearly 31,000 at home to Exeter last boxing day.

All they want to do is make the game accessible to fans, which includes Shrewsbury fans by the way, and the only possible conclusion you can draw to Shrewsbury opposing this is because they had ideas of cashing in on the size of our stadium. Anyway, if the Shrews had their way and prices were increased to a normal level, the crowd would be poor which would counter act the increase.

There was absolutely no reason to talk or make a public statement about Shrewsbury wanting higher ticket prices to 'line their pockets'.

Ah okay, missed that bit. Think they are right to stand their ground on the prices though as they know best how to fill their stadium. But yesvery arrogant to come out with a statement like that.

It was more a message to their fans. Picture this, your on a small income and fancy taking your son to the game at a reduced cost of £15 + 5 = £20. The opposing teams bosses come along and insist that prices go up to normal amounts costing you a potential £35 - 40 just coz they had plans on taking advantage on the size of SMS and the Saints fan base. Wouldnt you be pissed off. Like we have a duty to them to put their gate receipts before increasing the accessibility to genuine fans

Havent agreed with our chairman on many things but fair play for highlighting this blatant example where cash is being considered before the better of the game.
