Knight could be next to go
by Andy Naylor

On his way? Leon Knight Leon Knight revealed today he could be the next player to leave Albion.

The £250,000 departure of midfielder Darren Currie was followed on Friday by captain Danny Cullip's move to Sheffield United for the same initial fee.

Knight, back to his best in Friday night's 1-0 home defeat by Stoke, said: "I've got five months left on my contract until the end of the season.

"I haven't been offered a new contract and everyone respects Danny Cullip's decision.

"It's looking like it is going the same way for other players, including me, but we've got to put that all behind us.

"We played well on Friday, so hopefully we can just push on. We are creating chances and it's just a matter of time before we start hitting the back of the net."

Knight believes he can strike up a profitable partnership with Mark McCammon, who made his debut against Stoke on a month's loan from Millwall.

"It was good," said Knight. "He knows what he is doing. He has got a striker's mentality. We will just have to keep working hard together in training and see how it goes."

Manager Mark McGhee said: "We are still looking to maybe add another loan player but I think there is a combination there between Leon and Mark, and that gives us the opportunity to put Adam Virgo back into the defence."

Knight is suspended for Sunday's relegation battle at home to Gillingham after his controversial fifth booking of the season against Stoke.

If he hasn't yet been offered a new contract, what else is he supposed to think?

I think this smells of the Argus playing up the situation.

In the second half of the article it certainly doesn't read like Leon or McGhee are looking towards the departure of Leon Knight.

I was interested to hear Harry Redknapp's response after the Spurs match to the reporter who asked if Beattie was staying at Southampton.

"Well, if players like that leave we might as well all pack up and go home", i.e. if you sell your best players you're going down.

so what, sell a few players, suffer another relegation battle, maybe go down, who cares, its not like it'll be a shock to anyone.

If we go out of business and the club dies . . . .that will be a shock

I say flog what we can, make what we can to survive, to fight another year, we'll always field a team and compete, and we're currently fighting well above our weight

how long we can survive financially until the fuckwits in Whitehall make a decision I don't know, and it doesnt fill me with optimism to be honest
