There's a piece in the Times football pullout today about an Argentine midfielder called Sergio Torres who plays for Wycombe. He played for Basingstoke last season after paying his airfare to try and make it as a footballer in this country.

His first port of call was in Sussex. His highlights tape was given to Mark McGhee who gave him a two week trial based on what he saw. After two weeks he decided the guy wasn't Championship standard and didn't off him a contract. The guy ended up at Basingstoke whilst holding down a part-time job.

I don't remember reading anything about this guy but it does seem like we have contacts with Argentina, maybe the same sources who delivered Turienzo to us? A couple of Argentine players have moved to lower league English football this summer. I think Yeovil have two and Torres made his move to Wycombe. Wonder if this sudden Argie interest is somehow linked with this Ardilles cobblers in the Mail? Was he involved in the Turienzo deal?

Meanwhile, Albion chairman Dick Knight has dismissed as "total nonsense" a Sunday newspaper story suggesting Ossie Ardiles is about to take over from McGhee.

There could, however, be a link between Ardiles and future investment in the Seagulls. Talksport radio presenter Alan Brazil, a former Tottenham team-mate of Ardiles, claims to know a wealthy ex-player interested in putting money into the club.

Knight said: "I believe it is distinctly probable that all sorts of people who have had successful careers, like Ardiles, would be interested in Albion when we get our stadium."

Is Alan Brazil actually from Brazil or is it just a name he chose to make himself look all skilful and wicked?

It's actually just a coincidence. He gets his name from his father who was part of the famous chocolate brazil dynasty.
