to be fair, anybody who is stupid enough to leave the money at the cashpoint (the whole point in GOING to the cashpoint) is unlikely to spend the money on anything worthwhile.

also i thought that the cashpoint sucked the monies back in after a certain amount of time?

so did I :D Apparently it only does that with the card if it's not taken within a certain time

If there were other notes with it it wouldn't have.

A few weeks ago I went to a cashpoint in Worthing to draw some money out on a night out, and someone had left their money in the cashpoint - £20. I took it, and didn't really feel bad about it at the time - There was absolutely no one around other than me and my mate, but afterwards I kind of thought about how pissed off I would be if it had happened to me.

In answer to the original question though, I'd pick up a penny - it's lucky. Hasn't anyone heard the saying "See a penny, pick it up, all day long you'll have good luck" ?? :D

As one or two people have commented, only a fool would leave money in the cashpoint slot. That would certainly include me, earlier this year. On my way to get some sustainable transport to the Amex from Hurstpierpoint crossroads, I stopped off at the Post Office to get £20, saw the coach coming, flapped, and didn't realise I'd left the money until I was on the coach.

Few years ago mrs found £200 hanging out of a cashpoint, went into the bank and told the staff, who weren't interested.

I probably wouldn't bend down for less than a dollar. I'm also of the turn anything in variety if its in a wallet. For straight cash it depends on where I found it, but anything 100 and over I'd likely turn in.

I once left my wallet in front of a monitor in one of the Universities biggest group of public computers for checking emails etc with 600 dollars in it. Only realised I didn't have it about 3 hours later, went back and it was still sitting there.
