Seems to be boring rugby on right now. The FA Cup round-up must be on in about 20 minutes or so?

Extracts:

1) MM did not want a draw at Spurs. We were going for a win. (But we all knew that anywhere, because we haven't got a home ground capable of holding big time fixtures.)

2) MM: Also, professionalism starts at the top at each club. Goes down the line from the Manager to the players etc. This was cut short by the interviewer. He also said the performance of the Chief Executive was important. The club had to be run properly throughout (part implication).

3) Every Manager is looking for the smallest edge.

Other discussions. The ball is different for Cup matches. Doesn't swerve so much, heavier.

Mostly congratulating Exeter. Scunthorpe looked the better display on MOTD to me.

What does he mean by that?

I expect it means what MM said.

It made it more interesting than the usual drivel from the Managers. Too much for the radio interviewer who wanted to discuss the cup exploits of the smaller teams. The professional model seemed to be the way Manchester United are run because MM knows Alex Ferguson. At Manchester United the Directors demand nothing less than a professionally run club.

This had a bearing inasmuch the way Man United treated their opponents Exeter. At least that was the rhetoric. They could have fielded their first team.

The only question is why did MM say it? Maybe, he wants to impart a more professional attitude at the Albion? He seems to have started on the playing field and done quite well already.

Maybe, the idea of part-time Directors running a football club is a thing of the past. Championship and above they are now £multi-million businesses requiring to be run as such. But we knew that anyway.

But football clubs can still be small fry in business terms, in annual turnover, compared with local factories (if there are any left)? (my comment).

PS: MM also said Danny Cullip was a "leader", not the type of player, he would want to let go.
And a favourable mention for Bob Booker.

PS:

And MM also said, he had Spurs watched before Christmas and he did not think they were too much to fear, unlike Chelsea or Manchester United or Arsenal, but then the recent run of results for Spurs made him think again.

That's when he said we went for the win, not the draw.

Fair enough. I just get a horrid feeling that if all isn't to his liking he'll be off.

Cheers for that though, very interesting reading.

He would not be the first Manager to leave for this reason?

He would be the first to warn in public in advance though.

And if he doesn't perform he should be sacked?

Professionalism and Martin Perry are two words that are not associated with each other i am afraid.

It worries me that MM is implying that if the club isn't run more professionally then he will be off.

I do not like jumping to conclusions. MM could be referring to other clubs he has been with. Why did he leave Millwall etc.?

I ust don't agree with that. Go give us a n example of MP being unprofesional, and make sure it's a real one not just one you've imagined

The countless times he does not answer the question. Be it contingency planning, tickets for games, facilities at withdean.

Sorry I should have said be specific, not just general mud flinging. What and when has MP dodged questions in regard to those subjects.

A21 supporters meeting - why no contingency plans
Email - regarding improving facilities by having a temporary roof at Withdean
SCR - and reviewing the ticket allocation process.

The contingency plan question is rather straight forward. The clubs position has always been there are no alternatives to Falmer and therefore no plan b.

Second part can't answer as not party to your e-mail.

Third, don't see how he avoided that exactly. Do you actually mean he didn't give the answer you wanted?

If Prescott had said no where would we be...dead. In fact if he says no now where will we be? Never come across a Chief Exec who doesn't contingency plan, sorry.

He didn't reply to either of my emails re Temporary roof on Withdean. But when asked at meeting he said that w the club had other priorities.

What is wrong with reviewing something when your customers are complaining?

It is a bit unusual having a Chief Executive also responsible for planning etc.

On the face of it, it would seem too much for one person to do?

Strategic decisions are a matter for the Board of Directors.

It is easy to infer from inadequate information. I have always maintained that we needed more expertise on the Board of Directors, including planning. However, professional planning consultants don't really have a very good record. Sometimes this can be as low as 25% for medium-sized dvelopments involving Public Inquiries, so you can pay the money and still not get the results.

A bit like Football Managers, planners are judged on their results rather than their performance. The result of the first part of the Public Inquiry was a draw. We wanted a win. Nothing else would do.

I think it more likely that any implied criticism (and there is no definite implication) was about the whole set up at the Albion.

Compared to Tottenham it may not seem quite as professional?
Compared to Millwall (who have received more criticism than most) or Wolves?

MM seems to have taken the lead by improving the professional side of things on the pitch. In the interview MM also mentioned things like diet etc.

If MM wants to shake the whole club up, that's OK by me! There is always room for improvement.

Who do we compare Chief Executives to? Members of Parliament? Martin Perry may have a better record than some of them!

Rambling thoughts. It was a bit of a rambling interview.
