All i say is good luck to them ...ok the original split from Wimbledon was not good , but they are going on to form something which is miles better and for facilities puts us to shame . At least Winkleman is putting money up front and creating something rather than another so called supporting chairman feathering his own nest .

If 30,000 is the capacity, I'll bet they get 20,000 in it for their opening match - especially if they go up this season! But this lot definitely do not deserve it, although you have to admire the council at MK who have done everything to ensure their community now have a league club *and* a proper stadium.

I'm not sure who I feel sorry for the most:
Us - years of waiting and still no sign of a ground. :(
AFC Wimbledon - the fans deprived of league status - even now they play outside the borough. :(
Luton Town - they've been waiting for a ground longer than we have - and now not only are a new competitor immorally pitched up on their doorstep, but they're having a nice new ground built.
(the same could be said for Northampton Town - although at least they have a stadum built...)

2 things. The stadium will have a capacity of something like 20,000 when it opens. wankleman can't afford to finish it so they are not seating the tope tier until later. Final capacity will be 30,000 but that is likely to be a few years off as least.

The presenter, scriven, is a franchise employee and there are strong rumours that he used to be/still is BNP affiliated.

And I had a cracking day down in Exeter on Saturday with the true Wimbledon.

Incidentally, possibly fixtures but Liz Costa has just been on radio 4.

Good luck to them, great for those living there who never thought they would see league football.

Isn't the original blame to be laid with Merton council???

If wrong i apologise

But they aint in the Uefa cup or Champions League, I can't actually see MK dons even getting to Premiership.

Milton Keynes is one of the fastest growing urban areas in the country, they have the potential to get to the Premiership and probably will.

Such a shame they build a quality stadium now and waste it on Franchise when they could of moved out of Selhurst and not split. What a waste of a stadium.

Not exactly true as they tried everywhere around Wimbledon and North Surrey all to no avail had they not gone to MK they would have just folded. Much as I do not agree with franchise football it was that or nothing in their case. The venues that AFC Wimbledon play at would not have been acceptable to the Football League.

They tried to get a site at the Spectrum in Guildford and were prepared to play there and I read even Dublin and but it was not possible.

I presume they think this stadium will encourage the MK residents to start supporting their local team.

Not quite correct - Big Sam fell out with Merton council and tried then to get to Dublin et al. Did you know that he even tried to buy the Goldstone for the chartwell figure before the deal was signed and have us groundshare as tenants but Archer turned him down?

(side issue - Now why would a man who wanted the albion to succeed turn down the chance for us to stay at the goldstone in return for the same published money that Chartwell paid?)

Anyway when Wimbledon was sold to the Norwegians Merton wanted to commence negotiations - but the new owners didn't want it and then when Charles Koppel became involved they had already done a deal with the MK Development Council ahead of taking over the club. That's how Winkleman got involved as he is based in the Mk area and was prepared to fund the move.

I was involved in the new Midsummer Place, Point and snowdome developments in MK and when they were ongoing and before the Wimbledon deal was done the Dev Corp said in a meeting that a League club would be moving in and that they were prepared to help fund the stadium to get one. At that stage the names of Luton and Northampton were being bandied about but Wimbledon needed less investment from the MK corp and they got the deal.

Also interesting is that I was later told by Merton council that Plough lane was suitable for development as a 20k capacity stadium and that they had done all they could to block safeway developing it to keep the option open. AFC couldn't have funded it but Big Sam, or the Norwegians or Winkleman could've.

You are right in what you are saying my point being that at the final outcome it was MK or not at all because Merton at the time hadn't given any indication that they were prepared to acceptPlough Lane as a 20,0000 stadium and Sam as you say had fallen out with them so they wouldnt have gone back to Plough Lane.

My other point is that most people on here are in favour of what is now AFC Wimbledon but the grounds that they play on are not up to Football League standard so the old team couldn't have followed that route.

BG, that's imply not true. Merton Council were behind WISA in trying to find a site in Merton and they (iirc) in fact offered some possibilities, or at least the chance to investiagte them. The noggies refused as they wanted to move the club/sell out after bing conned by hamman. They made no effort at all to find a site in Merton and in fact there are recordings of charles koppell offering to assist a local residents association to oppose any application by Wimbledon FC to develop a new stadium. It was not MK or nothing. It was MK or no big pay day for them and wnkie.

The fact the club went into admin and koppell lost lots was a result of the fans walking away AFTER the descision was taken to move to MK not before.
