Right,

I was speaking to Mebona no.10 aka Arsenal fan, and he thinks the Wimbledon fans were RIGHT to stick with MK Dons. Personally I think MK Dons fans should be ashamed of the franchise, AFC Wimbledon are the real Wimbledon.

Please help us settle this dispute.

AFC. Would like to think that if Brighton ever went to the wall (cant see us getting bought and moved) that we would reform like they have.

If that guy wanted a football team in MK (surely there is one?) he should have started at the bottom like everyone else.

That depends whether the fans of the old Wimbledon are prepared to accept supporting a low-grade non-league football club in preference to supporting a Football League club that has completely changed its identity and location.

I don't think anybody can judge what is right or wrong for those fans until they are put in a similar position themselves, and to talk of people being 'ashamed' of the club they support is utter bollocks.

AFC Wimbledon are NOT the 'real' Wimbledon at all. That's a stupid thing to say. The 'real' Wimbledon died a couple of seasons ago. Two new clubs have appeared as a result of the 'real' Wimbledon's sad demise. It is entirely up to the individual whether he or she chooses to support the newly-formed non-league club or the new club in Milton Keynes that took their old club's place in the Football League.

Put it like this:

New owners take over after Falmer is rejected. They decide to move the club to Ashford in Kent to a temporary stadium. Eventually the club will move to a new stadium on the outskirts of Ashford in a huge development involving Wal-Mart. The clubs name is changed to Ashford Gulls and the kit colour changes to all-black. Our history is changed on the club website so it appears as though Ashford reached the FA Cup final in 1983.
The club scrap the badge and come up with a new one featuring a large A. The club markets itself to Ashford residents as the towns new club. The shop in Brighton and all football related schemes are shut down. There are no more youth football coaches employed by the Albion left in Sussex. No mention is ever made of the Albion again. No merchandise carries our name, no mention is ever made of our history.

Now ask that Arsenal fan if he would consider that team to still be Brighton & Hove Albion.

In America is a sports team is doing badly financially because of low attendances then the owners will relocate themselves to another city or state where there is the fanbase to support the club.

Should that not be the case here?

Most NFL teams don't move because they have low crowds, they move because the team owner wants to build a new stadium with more executive boxes and club seats and doesn't want to pay for it himself. They'd rather get the taxpayers of that city to build it for them. Trouble is that a lot of people don't like the idea of paying millions and millions of dollars for a facility that will be used by a private company. Hence why:

LA Rams became St Louis Rams
LA Raiders became Oakland Raiders
Houston Oilers became Tennessee Titans
Cleveland Browns became Baltimore Ravens

All of those teams had a good fanbase and were situated in major metropolitan areas. Same goes for NHL, MLB and NBA teams. The guy who bought the New Jersey Nets wants to move them to Brooklyn not because of their crowds but because he wants to build a huge residential development around the new stadium. It would be no different here.

I assume you're playing Devils Advocate so can I ask if my Ashford Gulls scenario would meet with your approval?

 i think my words have been taken slightly out of context here. i never said the fans were right to stick with mk.

you cant be 'right' on who you want to support. its your own opinion. they dont have to be a sheep and follow all the other fans. if some particualar fans cant face the fact that there team is mk dons and that they still refer to them as there team then fair do's to them. that was my opinion. slightly mis-quoted i think

so good luck to afc wimbledon and good luck to all those fans who stuck by mk through the love of the team

It's definitely AFC for me. If Winkleman had wanted to set up a club in Milton Keynes, he could have bought Milton Keynes Borough and gone about it the normal way. As a result of MK Dons going there, I understand Borough are going to the wall. Correct me, anyone, if I am wrong. Fatboy, would you really not mind if the Albion were shifted to Ashford?

This whole scenario occurred to me about 7 or 8 years ago, don't think we need to re-state the history, when there was a very real chance that our club might fold. I considered the possibility that the Albion might have to leave the league due to bankruptcy and also not having a home, I asked myself whether I would go and watch a re-formed BHA playing at a much lower level, the answer was yes whether it was Ryman League or Sussex League. I don't look on AFC Wimbledon as being the same team as the old one, for me MK Dons is just a new team who were fortunate enough to start their history in the league rather than earning the right to be there.

I would wish AFC all the best and hope that they may one day get into the league, for the fans more than anything else as let us not forget they had already lost their club once when they left Plough Lane, like we did when ours went off to play in exile.

Slimey little shit.

You said MK Dons are the real wimbledon, and spoke about AFC fans like they're deserters! Thats why I was annoyed and put this thread on here.

I would hardly do this if you said what you just claimed to have said.

Why would that annoy you? You're not an AFC Wimbledon fan are you?

Yes. I am a fan of AFC Wimbledon.

But I am not a supporter.

We know what you think on this matter tho. I'm a football fan then a Brighton fan.

LA Raiders became Oakland Raiders

On an historical note, the Oakland Raiders were the original team. The owner moved them to LA, found out it didn't work financially and then moved them back to Oakland again.
