I have to be honest and say I was thinking the same. It's probably, as others have suggested just coincidence and keeping engagement, but it wouldn't totally surprise me if a new "gentleman's agreement" contract with a low release clause after a season to get one more year out of him suddenly appeared. Probably wishful thinking.
