I reckon in his prime Messi could have managed it.

Messi may be the best football player of all the time. He's certainly in the top few. He obviously has immense skills. I don't know whether plucking the ball out of the air over his shoulder at full pace was one of them? But he's never done what Mitoma did. And he's not played in the PL.

Gomez third, Ayari 4th?
I thought Gomez scored the goal of the season. I think it hadn't have come in such a meaningless rubber it would have been up there.

Yep people have voted for a "standard" spectacular goal, instead of a goal that required an incredible amount of skill to pull off.
Absolutely this. Anybody can hit a thunderc**t, and occasionally have them actually hit the back of the net. Even if 9 times out of 10 they end up in row Z. Also anybody can hit a fluke goal that looks spectacular, but was totally not intended. And anyone can tap in a well worked team goal. Those can all be great goals to watch again and end up in the goal of the whatever (week, month, season) lists.

But Mitoma goal wasn't any of those. After Bart's ball over the top, it was 100% Mitoma, 100% pure skill, 100% absolute intentionality. It wasn't a rocket hit with venom. It wasn't a fluke and it was all Mitoma vs 4 Chelsea defenders.

That's why it's absolutely goal of the season for me.

I rest my case m'lud.

In my view even Baleba's was better than the winner. Marmoush had a clear view of the goal, with only one player in the way. Baleba, I don't think, could even see the goal - yet curved the ball round a clump of player and it was so good the keeper didn't even move.

Mitoma's was just something else altogether.
