I really liked The Alarm - much deeper than their critics gave them credit for. Saw them at the Dome once, which was a potty venue for a crowd that liked to pogo around! Also, caught them accidentally on Venice Beach giving a short free concert on the morning of the last day of our year away - just filling in time before an evening flight - and there they were! What a great way to end a long trip.

RIP Mike, brave long battle.

I only recently discovered this song and have been playing to death. When I first heard I thought it was the singer from Then Jericho but obviously not. Sad news, but what a legacy to leave behind.

In the North Wales ‘Hall of Fame’. The only band from the region who i can recollect ‘broke through’. RIP

Sad news indeed.

Saw them support U2 in front of a raucous home Welsh crowd at Cardiff Arms Park in '87, then at Hammersmith and at Greenbelt Festival.

Easy to pigeonhole them in the banal 80s stadium rock genre, but as mentioned above, many songs had sharp political lyrics.

They remembered where they came from and who they represented.

And Mike Peters communicated that authenticity with his vocals.

"Going out with my heart wide open
Going out with my hands held high
GOING OUT IN A BLAZE OF GLORY..."

I never got to see The Alarm live, but I did see Mike perform solo at Greenbelt in the late 80's.
The song "Rain in the Summertime" and the album title "Eye of the Hurricane" were inspired by the terribly bad wet weather at Greenbelt '86, my first one.

Also saw the Alarm at Greenbelt where Mike also did an acoustic set. Then met him, bizarrely, at a Buckingham Palace Garden party. Lovely guy.
