I could hardly belive my pies today. For anyone who wasn't there, the Albion hit a long, high clearance out of defence. It looked like it was going to bounce out for a throw-in, but the curl on the ball kept it in play, and Mcphee gave chase along the touchline. None of the Luton defence gave chase as it looked like it would bounce out, but instead the ball rolled along the touchline, leaving McPhee effectively with a clear run on goal from the halfway line.

Well, it WOULD have been a clear run on goal had Mike Newell not seen the danger, stepped outside the technical area, stood on the touchline and basically blocked McPhee from keeping the ball in and putting his team further in the shit (it was 1-0 at the time). With McPhee obstructed, the ball trickled out for a throw, and the danger was over.

Newell was rightly sent off by the ref, but this blatant gamesmanship should see further punishment by the FA. At this rate, we could have managers running from the dugout to take out players who are clean through on them. Dreadful sportsmanship, Newell should be embarrassed and ashamed of himself. The Albion should make a formal complaint against his antics.

f***ing disgrace.

They showed it on Sky...

it must have something to do with the lower non league feel withdean has to it that these kind of things go on. I have never seen anything like it in all my years of watching football.

Very funny! The ref was right to send him off, but was it off anyway?

Newell certainly made sure McPhee had no chance of keeping it in, cos he knew damn well there was a good chance of it.

That is totally unacceptable in my book, and it stopped a very promising break.

I think I would have been pissed off if we lost or drew, but because we won, I'm not really annoyed. I find it funny that a grown man would do such a thing in front of 7,000 people. Desperate times cause for desperate actions...:lolol:

The fury would be tenfold had it been 0-0 when Newell did his own blocking tactics. But the fact that we won, or that we were winning at the time, should not water down the offence he committed. I can only echo Dwayne - I have NEVER seen anything like it in all the years of watching football.

Despite that, I'm in a good mood tonight cos of the result, but what if they'd have nicked a draw after that happening ? McPhee should have ran straight into Newell and flattened the bastard. That would have drawn attention to what Newell was up to. Instead he politely pulled up, and Newell tried to laugh it off.

Coppells too much of a gent to make anything more of it I suppose, but that weasel Newell should be banished to the stands indefinately if thats the kind of stunt he likes to pull.

I agree with Easy, the bloke should be properly bollocked for what he did. I was steaming about it. A less good-natured, OGH say, would have squared up to Newell and it all could have got very nasty.

I feel like writing a letter to the FA. But I won't.

On a lighter point, did anyone see their 'keeper flick the V sign at the South Stand? Bloody hilarious because it was blatantly out of frustration, but if he gets reported for it and it's caught on camera then he could be in deep shit.

The flag went up about the same time that Newell got in the way - we will never know if McPhee would have reached the ball in time to keep it in (and the linesman would have struggled to have seen it anyway with bloody Newell charging all over the touchline).

The more I recall the incident, the angrier I am getting. Can someone get me a drink ?

According to Newell he thought the ball was out, he say's he was not shown a red card but asked by the referee to move. The only reason he went for the ball was to stop any delay in restarting as we were behind. The referee informed him before the game that the game was to have multi balls, meaning that when a ball went out it could be replaced by another straight away. At half time the referee withdrew the multi ball and insisted on only one ball being used due to delaying tactics whenever Luton won a throw in, now thats gamesmanshp.

He shouldn't have done it but I don't think there was an intent to stop us having an attack. I think was stupid but not a cheat.

Another moment of madness, very funny but he should not have done it as it was unclear the ball had gone out of play.

If a player did it could it be an automatic red for deliberate handball ?

Not sure what the rules are now.

I found it funny and when he went and hid behind the dugout and pointed at F Block in a kind of “it’s them that got me sent off” gesture. I said in the first half after the singing section were giving some stick to the other guy (assistant manager?) and he responded by waving that we might be able to have a little bit of fun with the away bench. I missed the goalkeepers gesture but I did hear a sarcastic cheer which I couldn’t work out the reason for so I guess I just missed it.

I thought the ball had already gone out but the lino had yet to signal it.
Newell was stupid by not waiting for the flag to go up and he deserved to get sent off but I don't think he intended to prevent us from scoring
