For some reason I never had much time for Gatting when he was a player but I liked his piece in the Times on the Ashes series. His quote on KP was my favourite :

"I'd much rather watch him than listen to him"

Mike Gatting: Andrew Flintoff not vital for Ashes - Times Online

It takes a special kind of ego to think that his actions in the winter leading to the removal of the coach and his own sacking had moved the team forward.

Great player but seemingly a bit of a turd.

I can remember that Graham Gooch was asked his opinion on the "Wonder Ball" that announced Shane Warne to the world when he bowled Mike Gatting when it pitched outside leg but took his off stump. " He wouldn't have missed it if he'd bowled it with a cheese roll " said Goochie :lolol::lolol::lolol:

Its interesting. his opinion on test matches and the lowering of attendances. This is going to be the biggest challenge to the cricketing world in the coming years. My personal view is that there's firstly too much international cricket played in all forms of the game and test matches in particular. We used to have one series per season at home and one away. Then came the introduction of the 2nd tier internationals. Their involvement was to benefit them such that they have all become full test nations but to the detriment of the old test series, a watering down if you like. Now the only true series we appear to like is the Ashes. The 3 game series with the Windies was so poorly
attended. Unthinkable a few years ago, perhaps coinciding with their demise in standard.

Yes because when he listens to him it becomes clear that the bloke should actually be representing South Africa at cricket and not England!!! An utter disgrace that the oily git is allowed to wear an England shirt!
