Thats the fella. Despite his Owen / USA rantings, I just couldn't tear meself away. Things didn't go any further, but I got the impression that he'd be mine for a Reef and a packet of pork scratchings.

An eye witness saw him dis-appear into the night with a guy dressed up as Alvin Stardust.

I hope Sven realises that you don't need a 7 foot beanpole in order for your team to score a headed goal from open play.

Owen's 2 goals showed that if the crosses are good enough he can score with his head. More proof, if any was needed, that we don't need Crouch.

Owen is true great. Hopefully he will be around for another 10 years. Drop him or sub him at your peril.

Agreed i dont think he has lost much pace, maybe a little, his movement is better but was always good, the main thing is that he is playing regular football again, and for a goalscorer that is vital just to get that extra little bit of sharpness about his game.

I have to say I do not think Madrid did him that much harm, he was still involved and scoring. I believe that it would have done him no harm to have another year abroad somewhere, he is the sort of striker that would probably thrive in Italy.

i was feeling rather smug. my sister said Owen doesn't seem to be doing much. but i said ah he's like that. he'll be non existent for long periods but then he'll pop up and score a goal just when you need it and that's why you can't drop him.

then what does he go and do? twice!

AVE THAT YOU GREASY BAD HAIRED CUUUUUUUNTS!

The problem with Crouch is simply he is not scoring goals. I see why him or Heskey should be in the squad as they give you options, but it would be nice if he could hit a cows arse with a banjo, but at present send him into a brothel with a fifty wrapped around his nob and he would still fail to score.

Owen, injuries and pressuming that there is not a player that is going to burst on to the scene in next 3 or 4 years, should easily take Charltons record of 49 goals for England. He is already on 35.

Yep and if you believe the papers then Owen is going to get all the 15 goals needed to break the record at next years World Cup...We are also going to win every game 10-0.

Albion & England forever.

I was arguing with some spacko in the pub about Owen. He wanted Defoe in the side, reckons Owens past his best and that Defoe is now the better player. What a COCKKNOCKER. Needless to say, he went pretty quiet when Mike banged in two late goals.

Mind you, he then went on to say that the USA are amongst the 5 or 6 teams who could WIN the World Cup next year, so it would appear I'd actually spent half the evening arguing the toss with a complete mentalist.

No it was not me.

However how many of you were thinking that Owen should have been taken off as he didnt touch the ball till about the 81st min?
I doubt many would admit it now because it would have been wrong

I am not sure his pace has really be effected. However what has improved, particualy post Madrid is his movement off the ball.

I agree that his movement has improved, he has an amazing instinct for chances. For his size he is also brilliant with his head.

I think he has lost his pace, watch him when he was 18-21 and watch him now. He's not slow but he used to be lightning fast.
