I believe he was a Plymouth STH. Remembering him brings it home how much "socialism" has changed in this country over a fairly short period. Whatever you think of the politics I consider that he was in it for what he believed rather than for the power and the glory.
Totally agree.

In all fairness your comment only underlines your age.

I do find it sad when people say things like the kid i have quoted above has said, it really is not necessary, but I guess everyone is entitled to there opinion.

well said - uncalled for and, from my political viewpoint, wrong. Michael Foot was a decent, principalled man who could hold an audience enthralled with his vernacular prowess and passion. Whatever your politics we live in a poorer time where people of such character and distinction are pushed aside by production line, spin pushing, faceless political clones.

Too nice. Too honest. Too scruffy.

Michael Foot, Labour's most disastrous leader, marched for peace all his life. Blair, Labour's most successful leader...(oh you fill in the rest). Care of the only Palace fan i'll publicly respect, Mark Steel.

did not agree with his politics but you have to admire his conviction and honesty. He somewhat become a laughing stock and dragged labour down in the process. This was when news coverage and political analysis was far from what it is now. You do wonder if any one of his ilk will ever reach the higher echelons of politics again, I doubt it and this is a shame. To me regardless of your view I would liken him to a nagging conscious. He was probably right more often than not but his views didn't sit well with the average voter.

Politics is a odd business and I for one believe in a conservative viewpoints, however there are very few Tories that I admire. However from the Labour side I have great respect for many such as the late John Smith, the late Mo Mowlom, Tony Benn and indeed now the late Michael Foot.

RIP

Plymouth squad player wasn't he?

He was the oldest registered player as a present for his 90th birthday. He was presented with a shirt and was told he was registered as long as he stayed on the left wing.

I suppose you could now say it is one foot in the grave.
