In Spain they just say the area, or penalty area (area de penalti) for the 18-yard box. Area de meta (goal area) for the six-yard box.
Since when did the penalty area become an 18 yard box anyway ? I'm clearly not up with this modern football speak.

If anyone quotes me anything in metres I always instinctively reply ' What's that in English ?' They always know what I mean.

I always look at metre to feet conversion. In fact, I didn't know how many centimeters there were to a metre until recently. I guessed from the Latin 😂
