Football at the top level has evolved in the last couple of years, where the best teams expect ALL the midfielders to put in a huge shift closing down the opposition as well as showing their own skills. Ozil has never been able to do the former.

I think it's body language though.

For example, think of Alexis Sanchez when he was at Arsenal. He was a REAL runner, right?

Ran an average of 1.5km less per 90mins than Ozil.

However, when a player looks all hustle and bustle and the other has a languid running style, it can completely sway how we view a player.
