Has to be said, he was far more engaged with the fans on Monday than is usual.

Selfie with the North Stand??
Only being used as a substitute when needed?

Enough circumstantial "evidence" to make me start to panic.

Genuinely started to think there was a chance he would end his career with us.
But that was probably just fanciful fanthink.

Will be gutted if this happens, but he should be playing in the champions league, and now is the right time for that move.

Time for Tony and Barbs to do their thing.

If he didn’t want to go to Saudi they could have offered 200 million and we wouldn’t have sold him. What Saudi offered bears absolutely no relevance to what we’d accept from a club like Bayern if Mitoma made it clear he wanted to go there imo. It could well be up to 50 million, I’d be surprised if it was more unless in add ons. I don’t think TB would be playing hardball like he did with Caicedo and Cucu in Mitoma’s case.
I am not so sure that TB has gone soft. Another factor here is that Mitoma has bottomless integrity. If we held out for what we truly value him at, you won't see him flouncing off to the papers and not putting it in on the training pitch.

He’s become increasingly more animated and engaged over time…….goal celebrations, crowd interaction etc etc. Very culturally Japanese (humble, understated) at the outset but has come out of that shell a bit.

The problem is that he’s (to coin a phrase) now bed blocking, late twenties, contract running down.We need to cash in and get the next left winger up and running .
Very true. Adingra would be a much better player by now if it wasn't for Mitoma.

I really think the club should hold out and keep him. To me he's the piece needed to push on if the club really want to do that. We have a real opportunity next season if we keep the nucleus of players together and buy in key areas needed. With so many teams in Europe if we don't get conference league we're at a massive advantage. I understand we would want to cash in but with JP probably leaving losing 20 goals (including Mitoma) and replacing that is hard even with the squad we have. Palace held out with Guehi this season unless Bayern want to spend a ridiculous price keep him. Mitoma will get his chance regardless he's just that good

We reportedly rejected £54m, then £75m in January, and understood £90m was potentially on the table but told Al Nassr he simply wasn’t for sale so not sure £60m is going to butter any parsnips for Barber.
I hear you but ultimately this is an entirely different scenario. He has 2 years left on his contract, it's six months further down than the Saudi offer so closer to end of deal.

If we don't negotiate strongly now then we effectively could lose him entering final year of contract when he's 29 and have to accept £30-40m next summer.

Bayern can offer Champions League football and trophies with prestige plus eclipse wages we would offer. The first two being things Al Nassr couldn't offer. And whilst being Japanese I expect him to handle this with decorum he is still human and might quite like to go here. These things are all not in our favour.

We really should not be using Palace as a model to follow. Apart from the fact that they’ve been run at a loss accumulating around 200m since they were promoted, their squad lacks depth. It’s one thing winning a KO where they had to beat 3 premier league teams, but over a 38 game season their regular annual position of 11-13th is more indicative.

If Bayern make a decent bid, can’t imagine we’d stand in his way and he’s not likely to forego the opportunity. Sad but he seems like a great guy as well as a wonderful player so good luck to him, whatever happens*

*excluding a transfer to Chelsea or Palace

Im not their model is not sustainable especially with Europe but they kept a key player in the summer which helped them get an FA cup. Mitoma is our best player and to me irreplaceable. Yes that would mean year less in his contract and lower value but if we keep him there's a higher chance of a successful season, a good cup run, finishing 6th or above. 50 mil spent on either 3-4 17 year olds or 1-2 23 year olds that aren't proven and wont replace him to me is not good enough.

Maybe, but against that he’s likely to be in high demand and there’s a huge commercial value attached to signing him that other clubs would take into account. Anyway, we’ll see….or rather we won’t, because the only certainty here is that if and when he is sold it’ll be ‘undisclosed terms’ :lolol: Any sale for us is entirely bottom line profit from an accounting perspective too.

I said exactly the same thing when I watched a "Mitoma-cam" type video from a Japanese fan that I posted somewhere on here, possibly this thread.

For someone who has always come across as restrained and reserved - almost shy - he was far more demonstrative during his cameo against Liverpool.

We kept the nucleus of the sqaud last season added to it and came up short.
