Desperately in need of some experience in the side, it's a bit of a mess this team, not having a pop at the youth but there are far too many of them starting games and many of them are just getting brushed off the ball, need an older head or four in the squad and a bit of muscle.

 Well said you could see it in them cox el bad, seem to be the only players who give themself a kick up the arse! they need someone to look to whos gunna help carry them and have the experience of what to do in certain situations! we never looked like we was going to come back after we went a goal down! and chippy lacks the respect of most of the youth players!

Spot on - at least two experienced (NOT past it) players needed.

I think Santos will be a bad signing, with the amount of goals conceded it's clear we need a defender - but we have a lot on the books already - Santos, Butters, El-Abd, Hinsh, Lynch, El-Abd, Elphick...

I thought the two central defenders El Bad and Lynch were awful today. Until we learn to stop giving away stupid ghoals we will struggle.

An old boy at Sheff Utd would sought our defence out and according to the papers today wants to leave as he cant get in their side but he is 35 ..................... Chris Lucketti possible loan ?

Their first goal was one of those terrible delegations of responsibility (in other words both left it to each other) of which a more experienced defender would deal with.

Still if we have to play these younger ones then so be it as there is a great potential eventually.

When they come out it looks like the U14's with the manager(s) as hopeful parents.

Yes,I know a lot of folk will be on here saying keep the faith, and miserable doomsayer, but I fear bleak times lie ahead unless some experienced professionals can be found to put some more backbone and bite into the team.

In the past,a lot of our youthful players would have been at the Rocks or the Rooks to get some match experience. Many of them would have stayed there.

In the meantime,we borrow other teams' youth players.

What's going on?

We lack a leader on the pitch and have done since Oatway was injured last Christmas. The sooner Butters returns the better, he may not have the pace but reads the game and organises the defence well. We need somebody in midfield who can take the team by the scruff of the neck and push them to the limits when they are behind or organise and calm when holding on to a lead.

If we can find them then I reckon this lot of youngsters could be a decent team.

Only three of the 14 who played today were over 24.

The thing DK has to realise is people that aren't season ticket holders are not going to pay £25 for a youth team game, which is what they will be getting... As the crowds suggest...

Would be interesting to know the average age of our starting 11 today, compared to Cheaterfield.

Thought they were nieive (Sp?) for the 1st goal and thought Lynch dived in to a tackle he consequently didn't win, allowing them the space for their 2nd scorer to run into.

I'm assuming that our financial plight is now far worse than when Adams was building his side, but I can't help harking back to a team that played with purpose, urgency and displayed that level of experience under Adams.

Still, guess we are where we are and thank God for the youth players coming through. In an odd way, although we were losing, I couldn't help feeling slightly proud of seeing so many local lads trying their hardest for the team.

I can't be bothered to look up Chesterfield but we were:

Henderson - 16/9/83 - 23
El-Abd - 11/9/84 - 22
Lynch - 3/10/87 - 18 (just!)
Rents - 22/6/87 - 19
Hart - 21/9/76 - 30
Loft - 25/12/86 - 19
Carpenter - 30/9/72 - 34 (Happy Birthday Chippy!)
Hammond - 7/3/83 - 23
Cox - 12/8/87 - 19
Revell - 7/7/83 - 23
Williams - 9/6/87 - 19

Average age 22

Cheers Hiney. With the exception of Hart & Chippy then, a bloody young side. I may work out Cheaterfield's if I get time tonight & am bored!!

Based on that, & the way we tried to play football vs Cheaterfield's "route one down the middle" tendencies, seems promising if we can stick at it over the long haul.

As DK said on the radio and all credit to him it is good to see local lads coming through and if DW had his way the team would be fulkl of Sussex born players but that is not practical and players need to be brought in.

But those players need to be expereinced ones not boys.

Bring back Butters. El Abd didn't know whether he was a right back or centre back today.

...and we'd be playing in the Conference...
